Metalheads?

I used to be somewhat of a metalhead in highschool, but now I don't even touch my old metal CDs. I've given away most of them, in fact. When I did listen to metal, I had stuff like Romstein, Stabbing Westward, some Metallica, a little bit of Tool, Van Halen, and Dokken. Romstein was great to listen to before basketball games and track meets for getting the blood pumping. However, I'm not sure what effect they would have on me today as my taste in music as changed drastically over the years.

Ah, another Iron Maiden fan. Did you know that in August the live Death on the Road album/DVD is going to be released? Excellent stuff... I never bought Dance of Death even though I always intended to, but I think the live album will fit into my collection nicely.

I learned many lessons from that mess.<p>Metaliica was always my favorite metal band, but I liked some Guns n' Roses. Anybody like Guns n' Roses?

I share a liking in Guns n Roses. Hehe, I always laugh at that footage that was caught when Axel saw someone in the crowd bootlegging at a concert. Hehe, thats good stuff.<p>And as far as this whole ordeal with the PMs, lets move it to another thread.

Metal is cool. It is about he only thing I listen to, besides hard rock and some classic rock. I hate Pop, po rock, boybands,Techno outside of videogames, etc. I also like industrial and goth rock.

Some of my favourite metal bands include (in no particular order) Symphony X, Iron Maiden, Skyfire, Iced Earth, Nightwish and Children Of Bodom, to name a few. Some other bands I like include Megadeth, Edguy, Cradle Of Filth and Windir. I'm not into any styles in particular, really; I'll listen to pretty much anything. Whether I like or don't like what I'm hearing would depend on the song.

Ah...Cradle of Death. Sorry Miz, I know we've talked about Death Metal before, but I simply can't listen to Cradle of Filth. Screaming or hissing can give a nice sound, if used effectively. However, Cradle of Filth takes this to the nth degree and as a result it ends up sounding ridiculous. <p>I've listened to their cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name, and besides the guitar (which I thought was great), the song was destroyed. I was literally laughing my ass off because of how ridiculous the song sounded. The best way to describe that abysmal squawking was a cross between a Star Wars Jawa and Mini-Me (off Austin Powers. His real name escapes me) singing together.<p>I'm not willing to write off Death Metal yet (though the Satanist views don't suit me), but I think there has to be someone better than Cradle of Filth.

Let's make this perfectly clear: Guns N' Roses is not Metal. At very best it's hard rock, and at worst it's a hair band. But Metal? Not at all.<p>Miz brought up the band I love to hate, Cradle of Filth. I know that they don't necessarily represent the entire genre of Death Metal, and I have heard some Death Metal done well (yesterday on MetalStorm's radio, for one), but to be honest I view the entire band as a joke. As Siren said, they butchered one Hallowed Be Thy name with Dani Filth's laughable vocals, not to mention that the excellent guitar and bell kit intro was converted into <i>keyboard</i> by them. <br>I feel as if Cradle of Filth is a band of faux-Satanists trying to make a fortune off the shock-culture gimmick that is their Satanism. To top it all off, the lead singer has no talent... having his scream filtered through a host of different machines is not talent, and it's certainly not impressive. The atmosphere they attempt to give their songs is just a plain joke as it is so ridiculous that I can't possibly take it seriously.
