It's also easier when you know Latin or a Latin-based language, but to accentuete my point I'll give an example. But first, you must realize that the base unit of any type of measurement must be known whether you're using the english or the metirc system. However, when you get into larger numbers and measurements, the base word for the metric system stays the same whereas the english system changes the word entirely. I'll give a common example:<p>inch>foot>yard>mile>league<br>milimeter>centimeter>meter>kilometer<p>...and then there's the fact that in the english system one uses the base unit of an ounce as two different ways of measurement - by weight and by volume! Two completely incompatibale and incomparible measurements one to another. That just doesn't make sense to a scientifical mind.
