Thank you, Monocromatico.
That illustrates my point even better.

From the moment it affects, it's bad. That was my whole point. Splitting hairs doesn't change this.

How was I splitting hairs? It seems to me that you were over generalizing instead.
Oh, but wait... Benoit's just being spiteful. Very mature.
Never taking it is better than taking it in moderation.

A glass of red wine every day is actually beneficial to your health.

I havent gone to any school events willfully at least, and just like Khyrons prom my school events are filled w/ baring rap music (bleh) and alot of idiots making humping motions. So I have completely given up on school events,. I would never waste my money on them over buying a videogame or something. My school just sucks.

But another school in my area was having a prom w/ hard rock and metal music (which is an entirely different problem than the rap and the humping motions) yippee right? but it was a formal dance and they didnt allow any of the usual things that go along w/ metal such as spikes so it looked very weird seeing people trying to slow dance to metal (moshing wasnt allowed) but it was at least better than rap (which i hate with every fiber of my being)

No, I was being intelligent instead of trying to say how alcohol is good despite it affecting you and damaging your brain cells.

Yes, HAIL LORD BENOIT! ALMIGHTY INTELLIGENT OVERLORD!
Benoit, this arrogance complex really needs to go.
No, I was being intelligent instead of trying to say how alcohol is good despite it affecting you and damaging your brain cells.

Perhaps you need to re-read all my preceeding posts? You seem to get the wrong impression, jumping from one extreme to the other. But wait, you're so intelligent that you'll be able to figure it out on the second or third time through... maybe. However, I myself do not hold you in as high regard as you do, so I think a recap is in order.

Alcohol will affect your inhibitions from the first drink you have. Will it be noticeable after one drink? Probably not. In large quantities alcohol will cause permanent damage in your brain. That is why moderation is the key... you may do something foolish if you lack inhibition, and too much drinking will damage your brain. If you don't think you can practice control and moderation, then it's probably a good idea you stay away from alcohol.

However, you still got my meaning mixed up. You seem to think that I advocate heavy drinking or something. No, I don't. I said one glass of red wine a day will benefit your health. Hm... one glass, per day... sounds a little like that magical word, moderation. Especially since a healthy liver can burn that much off in an hour.

I don't know what's with your misreading of what I'm saying, but it's almost as if you're looking for a fight. A little foolish that I had to repeat myself on something that was fairly simple to understand in the first place. Now, if you want to play last word...

Technically alcohol damages even in moderation..

Proof of this, please. I have proof of my claim... Reader's Digest. I would very much like to see that it damages in moderation. Certainly I can see more potent drinks damaging in moderation, but most of the stuff that people drink regularly isn't usually over 5%.
If you've got links, I'd like to see the particulars.

Any scientific paper that was not bought by alcoholic drink companies proves by a+b that any quantities of alcohol will cause permanent damage to brain cells, in larger or smaller dimensions. Etanol acts as a neurodepressant that retards the connection between neurons. The toxicity of it will force the neurons to spontaneously die, closing the link between them. And God knows which link will be closed at every drop of alcohol you swallow.

Just like a cigarrette will cause damage to the cells of your lung increasing the chances of developing cancer and any kind of drugs will case damage to brain/liver cells at higher or lower levels.

I could not prove that wrong if I wanted to.

Not to mention the work the liver has to do to clean this mess from your blood, creating unpleasing molecules called cetonic bodies that are responsible for headaches and, in bad cases, hungovers. This work is not really natural for this organ, as we didn´t evolve to assimilate alcohol as part of our diet, overcharging it. Continuous use of alcohol in "moderation" will cause such a damage to the liver that, later, a person may develope cyrrhosis, or however you spell it :^P

Nothing harmful will become good in moderation. Unless you judge the damage it causes as something good enough for you. I know I don´t, but it´s not really my business what others think.

I know I want my mind to be the last thing to last before I die. I know I can not do anything to make it sure, but I can increase my chances.

A true scientist who has any respect for their profession is, also, a teacher. Because science is not out there to fill the egos of an intellectual ellite that works on it, but it is there to serve people with acquired knowledge through the scientific method. So it´s part of a scientist job to spread that knowledge for the good of human kind.

A good scientist is also a teacher. And as I am a biologist already, it´s part of my job to teach about these biological stuff too :^P

Oh, and the utopy would be if all scientists teach the people about their discoveries, and not try to convince them that they have found the truth, the right path. I hate when scientists think they are gods, or treat science as a religion. That sucks and makes me ashamed :^P

Except for mathematicians. They have that right :^P

Benoit, this arrogance complex really needs to go.

You're seeing something that is not there. Again.
Perhaps you need to re-read all my preceeding posts? You seem to get the wrong impression

Not at all, you just misunderstand me.
Alcohol will affect your inhibitions from the first drink you have.

That was my entire point. Yet you kept on rambling about moderation.

And my point was also that from the moment it actually affects you, it's bad. We're not even to the point of moderation there. It's quite simple, really.

My only problem was you saying how alcohol is harmless when used in moderation, when it's obviously not.

If you think I'm being arrogant, I'm sorry. But I'm tired of alcohol, and people's views of it, thinking it is cool to be drunk, and being mature.

My dad drinks. Sometimes too much. And even then it happens often enough. He wastes a lot of money, annoys the hell out of us, insults my mom and makes her cry. We're almost constantly living in fear of him drinking too much again and making us suffer.

This has been going on for 20 years. Yes, he has been under treatment. Many times, actually. But he always starts again.

All this because of alcohol.
Benoit
