PS3 Fanfic: Echoes of the Past (New Sectionette, 1/14)

The two androids stepped into a hot summer's day. While Climatrol prevented the temperature from climbing too high, it was warm enough that the elderly stayed indoors, and the pools were swamped with children.
"Why aren't you mad, Mieu? I mean, what they did was inexcusable!"
Mieu shrugged. "I've grown used to it. They just want to see me get angry. If anything, I pity them. They act like two year olds."
"They are two year-olds, but the point is made," Miun jerked her head in the direction of the Commandants office. "Come on, let's go."
For some reason which neither cyborg could fathom, the Techna Military Base's commandant had his office across town in city hall. The three mile walk meant nothing to the cyborgs, but Mieu could imagine what humans felt when they were ordered to walk to the office for a meeting with an unhappy commandant.
People glanced at the pair as they made their way down the main thoroughfare. Inevitably, a passerby stopped them and exclaimed to Muin, "That cyborg looks just like you!"
Neither android was surprised by this. Miun, unlike Mieu, was designed to look perfectly human. Sophisticated sensor spoofing equipment allowed her to pass all but the most advanced body scans. All this complicated technology wasn't just for show, of course. It was critical to Miun-type's primary mission: Spying on those who oppose the will of Mother Brain. Miun and Mieu did look somewhat alike, because Mieu's chassis was used as a basis of Miun's. This was done to save money and time, and all the other Miun-types were unique.
"Thank you," Miun replied with a smile, "I paid a lot of meseta for her."
The passerby tipped his wide-brimmed hat. "Good day, ma'am. May Mother Brain watch over you."
"And you." With that, the two androids continued on their way. The reached city hall without further incident. The commandant's waiting room was empty, save for a sec-bot.
"How may I help you?" It asked.
"I'm Miun and this is Mieu. The commandant wishes to see us."
"Affirmative. The commandant will see you shortly." The sec-bot was designed much like Mieu, in that much more than just the face was covered in synth-skin. However, it was just a re-chassised Viren or Wren-type, and was just as emotionless and logical as a stock cyborg. Still, it was found that people were much more comfortable speaking to a sec-bot rather than a normal Wren, so sec-bots were used as clerks and secretaries.
A minute later, the sec-bot said, "Commandant Jager will see you now."

Miun slowly opened the heavy wood door of the commandant's office.
"Come in, quicky!" A voice called out from inside the room. "And shut the door! Who knows who might be watching!"
The two androids hurried to enter the room and shut the door. The room was so dark that they reflexively activated their nightvision.
The commandant picked up a flashlight off his desk and shined it at both of the android's faces. "Miun, Mieu? Good."
"You called for us, sir?"
"Yes, Miun, I did." The commandant fought to spread out a primitive paper map on his desk, "I've got a mission for you two."
Well, duh, Mieu thought as Miun said, "What is it, sir?"
"Well... dammit!" The commandant lost his grip on the flashlight and it clattered to the floor, shutting itself off.
"Allow me, sir." Two pools of bright light lit up the desk.
"Turn your eyelights down, Miun! They might be watching!
"Of course, sir." Miun said as she dimmed her eyelights.
"Ok," Jager leaned over the dimly let map. "In cave here... no, was it here? No, I'm sure it was here." The old man took off his glasses and wiped them clean. "Anyway, in a cave here there is a group of people. I want you two to go there and make them stop whatever they are doing, using whatever means necessary."
"Uh, sir?" Mieu spoke up, "What are they doing?"
Jager shrugged. "We don't know for sure, Mieu. We just want it stopped. Maybe a small village nearby knows something. Just be careful, it is a backwards community."
"Yes, sir. Anything else?"
"Yes..." The commandant opened a drawer in his desk and began to root around. "No, that isn't it... not that either... ahh, here it is."
The commandant threw a closed bag in the general direction of the pair, which Mieu deftly plucked from the air. "What is this, sir?"
"2000 meseta. It's for you to buy necessary supplies and equipment. You are dismissed. Don't forget to close the door!"
The pair left as quickly as they could, making sure that the door was shut tight.
Mieu lighted tossed Miun the bag of meseta. "Another fine meeting with Commandant Jager. What should we do?"
"Well, we need to reequip. These standard steel claws we have aren't going to cut it. After that I'll use whatever is left over to buy odds and ends will help us."
Mieu nodded. "All right, lets go."
------
I've gone ahead a put some of the other stories I've done here. Enjoy.

[Edit by Amwhere on [TIME]1082015347[/TIME]]

Great! But...I'm confused. This is before Palm explodes, since people are talking about her as active, but...is this on Palm? I'd think so, except for Techna...which leads me to believe it's on a World Ship...hmmmm.

I can only type so fast! If I had a scanner, I'd scan my handwritten drafts somewhere, but I doubt you'd be able to read them (heck, I barely can).

The commercial district of Techna was bustling. The two androids negotiated their way through the thick crowds to the front of the Cyborg Supply Depot.
"I`ll be right back. Wait here." Miun disappeared into the store.
Mieu didn't like to wait. As she thought about it, however, she realized how childish this was. Unlike the short-lived beings milling around her, she was effectively immortal. Even a wait of a thousand years, while likely to be boring, would just be a mote of time in her aeons long lifespan. She smiled (which drew a few astonished looks) and patiently waited for Miun to return.
Miun emerged a couple minutes later, carrying a large plastic bag. "You should have seen the look on the clerk's face when I asked for two pairs of claws," Miun radioed in order not to be overheard, "He said that any cyborg that uses claws would be so obsolete that I should scrap them and get new Wrens. I insisted and he found these," She held up the bag, "two pair of diamond bladed titanium claws. We'll install them when we get out of town, for obvious reasons."
Mieu nodded. "Where to now?"
"To the department store. I've still got shopping to do."
The department store was a short distance from the Cyborg Supply Depot. Miun once again told Mieu to wait as she shopped.
Across from the department store was one of the Burger Stands that were everywhere on Palma. The stand was very busy on this hot day, as the piles of cast off soda cups attested to. Mieu wondered why these burgers were so popular. If Miun had given her some meseta, she could have found out, as she was the first android to have a human-like sense of taste and smell.
Miun pushed her way out the department store twenty minutes later wearing a light blue blouse and jeans instead of the standard skimpy red outfit that the Miun-types (including Mieu) usually wore. "Here, " she handed Mieu an empty backpack, "this is for you. It might come in handy."
"Why the clothes?" Mieu asked as they made their way out of the business district.
"I will be visiting a town which our commander claims is `backward'. Since our red uniforms aren't exactly normal by today's standards, it would be very out of place there. So, I chose a classic number."
Mieu nodded, and the pair walked out of town.

Cool... I like how you've set up Palma's culture. They're like us, well kind of, and I like how you made the cyborgs embedded into Palma's culture.
One thing, though. I think it would do you well to describe the surroundings more. I don't mean describe it so much that it get's tedious, but a little more description is needed.

This is part of a larger section that has no places to stop that make sense. If I were to type it all out, I may not get anything up until Tuesday, and surely you guys don't what that.
Miun motioned for Mieu to stop when they got out of eyeshot of town. "Alright," she set the claw boxes on the ground, "we'll install the new claws here. We'll do this one at time, as we don't want to be caught unarmed."
Mieu nodded and looked about her. The shimmering grass plains of Merica were all she could see, save for the hills to the west. The Merica Plains were once the breadbasket for the entire region, before all farming was moved into the biodomes.
"You know what, Mieu?" Miun said as she removed the synth-skin, biomorphic gel, and laconian mesh section from the bottom of her forearm. "If Jager had given such a nebulous mission to a Wren, it would probably be wandering around right now." She removed the laconian armor plate to reveal the claw system. This quarter of an inch thick armor plate served both to protect the systems underneath and to mimic the bone structure of a human. "Can you hand me a box, Mieu?"
Mieu bent down and picked up a box out of the knee high grass. The seal on one end was broken. "Miun, this one's been opened."
"Well, hand it over." She open the box and removed a set of jet black claws. "Hmmm... I’ve never seen anything like this before. These certainly aren't what is on the box, that's for sure."
"What are you going to do?" Mieu asked as she removed the seal on the other box.
"Install them, of course." She removed the old steel claws and put the new ones in. "They click in fine," said as she replaced the armor plate and skin section. "They activate fine, as well." The claws extended and retracted from the concealed ports on the top of her wrist. "Now to seal up the break in the skin... there we go! Mieu, it is your turn."
Mieu had a much easier job installing her new weapons as her claw port was on the surface of her forearm, hidden by a cloth covering. She removed the new claws from the box, somewhat hoping that they would be the same as her partner's. They weren't. "Well, at least it what it shows on the box, "she said as she tested the new claws, "and, for being as old as they are, work really well."
(Edit: Made a slight change to the claw description.)
[Edit by Amwhere on [TIME]1082448203[/TIME]]

[Edit by Amwhere on [TIME]1082448222[/TIME]]

I was going to say "Mieu isn't a outcast", until I realized you're right.
I know I shouldn't either, but I'll give a couple hints:
Laconian, you'll be sadder when you see how Aron treats her. (That'll be a week or so.) He'll get his payback, but you'll have to wait for that.
And about the claws: Remember the color of Orakio's sword.

[Edit by Amwhere on [TIME]1082439073[/TIME]]
