In the latest issue of Shonen Jump mag in Japan contains a preview of the game PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE which reveals that it will be released for the PS2 and PC in Japan. The article does not indicate the nature of the game in regards of it being Online/offline or when it will be released but rumors indicate it will be this Summer. There you have it then. You all know it was the PS2 as i originally stated ages ago. Now let the misery begin.....
Image
[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111072502[/TIME]]
[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111150953[/TIME]]
[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111150990[/TIME]]

[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111151104[/TIME]]

Dude, if you had seen the trailer, you would know that there was a numan.
This news is obviously bogus. Come on, Shonen Jump is a MANGA magazine. PSU is still in the storyboard stage.
Seems like the type of shit EGM pulls on us.
Nothing's to be believed unless it comes from an official source.

Some more info

http://www.totalvideogames.com/pages/articles/index.php?game_id=3899&article_id=7402
Phantasy Star Universe
17/03/2005
By: Chris Leyton
Phantasy Star Universe – New Information
Well it could be called that, but then again we’re left even more clueless then before...
Having briefly revealed Phantasy Star Universe at E3’04 as the continuation of Sonic Team’s popular online series, SEGA has been silent on the subject ever since... that is until today.
Speaking within the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, a SEGA representative provided the first specific details although remained cryptically quiet on a number of important aspects.
Firstly the game is confirmed as being multi-format, although only the Playstation2 and PC versions were talked about during the article. Of more intrigue is the fact that “online” was not mentioned at all during the entire piece, and left doubt as to exactly what form Phantasy Star Universe will end up shaping into.
The bulk of the article focussed on the storyline behind Phantasy Star Universe, which tells of a cataclysmic war that took place over a century ago and left the solar system peaceful. That peace however is threatened by an invasion of an alien race known as The Seed. In order to protect the three planets and their colonies, the “Guardians” was established and enlisted highly-skilled, young warriors. Amongst these soldiers is Ethan Weber a 17 year old man who has become a master of the laser sabre, and Karen Era, a young woman who is deadly with blades.
We’re hoping that SEGA will blow open the floodgates soon, as this latest information has left us muddling around bewilderment to say the least; we’ll have further information soon.

[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111082138[/TIME]]

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/596/596788p1.html
Star Universe Revealed
First details, including platform, for the next Phantasy Star game.
by Anoop Gantayat
March 17, 2005 - Phantasy Star Universe has been shrouded in mystery since its initial unveiling back in May of last year. SEGA actually managed to unveil the title while remaining quiet about its storyline, gameplay and, surprisingly, its target platform. That all changed today with the latest issue of Japan's Weekly Shounen Jump, which features the details we've all be dying to know.
First off, platform. The magazine lists Phantasy Star Universe as being in development for the PC and PlayStation 2. It does not list any other platform, so we can presume that, in Japan at least, the game is coming to these two platforms alone.
Phantasy Star Universe is set in the Grail Star System, which consists of three planets, as Phantasy Star fans would expect. Players are thrown into the middle of a war that has spanned a vast time.
Unlike PSO, the game has main characters with names. Two characters have been revealed so far: Ewan Webber and Karen Ella. Both aspires to be members of a fighting force called the Guardian Force. Will they be accepted?
Unfortunately, the exact nature of Phantasy Star Universe is still somewhat of a mystery. It's definitely an RPG, and it definitely has an Online component, allowing players to adventure with friends. Jump doesn't reveal if the game is a massively multiplayer Online title, or if the Online play is more limited, as in Phantasy Star Online. Players will be able to travel back and forth between the three planets of the Grail system, adventuring through massive 3D fields on vehicles and taking on huge monsters along the way.
A good many questions still remain unanswered, but at least we now have some solid details on Sega's big return to Phantasy Star. We expect information to slowly be released as the game approaches its Winter Japanese release.

[Edit by Gboy on [TIME]1111082861[/TIME]]

Sounds like PSO characters in a PS like world... As I thought... This can't go to well... the the whole invading space war thing has been done a million times already, PS had something original why have we lost that >.>
BTW I've seen the trailer but I never made out a single numen within it, I did see people with horns, floopy ears, strange looking hats, but no pointed ears like Numans.

..the girl in the old style house...
However an original story is not so important, a good interaction will be much more innovative in a Jap RPG.

I can't agree with you, not making a good story is to me definitly a bad point.
Again I hope they do have a good reason to put a "Numan" in the story (I really dont like this word)
Then I am totaly turned off by the chara design, the hero being a 17 years old boy "who wants to be part of the "guardians"". "Guardians" Seems to my ears to be such a cliché.
Sorry to be so negative, I don't like criticizing but when a new sonic team comes to touch such a good serie (Phantasy star what else hahahaha) I can't allow them to make any mistake.
I definitly hope Sonic Team to prove me wrong. It's just that until now It doesn't give me a good feeling and neither did the trailer released many monthes ago...

If this isn't a bunch of trash (and I think it may be), I shall kill Sonic Team because of their stupidity. Why the hell would they release on their worst platform?!

I 'm figuring that Sega will show the game at this year's E3 in full playable mode. EGM is supposed to show an indepth preview of the game next month so the game is definitely coming this year.
But I agree with the previous poster that there is n't much to really judge it yet.

I agree with Hubbs in the console area. The PS2 is a great system to release anything on, due to its popularity. Its funny, for example, in my old town (very small), everyone had a GC. Now nobody does, they all went to XBox or PS2. I am the only one still with a GC and I have moved since then. So...what does this show? Possibly a smaller scale ratio of what a lot of people do.

60 million ps2 units worldwide and PC's are everywhere?

Read what I said again. I said it was Sega's worst platform, meaning that Sega's fan base is the smallest on the PS2, whereas the GC and XB fan bases are comparitively larger.
