How are PSO/PSU related to the original series?

Discuss anything related to the Phantasy Star series

Oh boy, now I'm even more confused!!! Noah is not Lutz?!!! So, then why did the eclipse torch thieves ask Rune "if you're Lutz, then you remember who awaits you in the Air Castle."?

The Air Castle bit is where Mike's theory is weak. He's forced to concoct a scenario with changing names and Lutz revisiting the Air Castle and all that. Simply put: if Lutz inherited Noah's memories, the monsters who stole the eclipse torch were speaking accurately. It's not too hard to imagine Noah passing on his memories -- just sad that his name is forgotten and is referred to as "the first-generation Lutz".

I had always thought that his name being Noah was just changed or improperly translated just like much of PS1. Hmmm.. Phantasy Star theories are so pretty fascinating.. I think I'll read more :)

Mike Ripplinger was being a moron for constructing a pointless theory over something so trivial that is a name change: Noah/Lutz. Get with it.

Better.

Long story short: The PS community was getting stale. Cue American cowboy (Mike Ripplinger) who brought in a stupid "Noah isn't Lutz!" theory to create drama.

And guess what? It worked. Wish I had his l33t skillz.

So is his connection to PSO, to stur up drama or an honest opinion,

You can't "improperly" get "Noah" out of "Lutz". It was a deliberate and stupid decision by the localization team. Or was not changing his name in PS2 the mistake? Regardless the name change implies the guy you meet in PS2 is not the same one.

Nah. He just believes it's Phantasy Star V, and like many fans, wanted to link it to the original games.

The site isn't updated anymore. He abandoned it a couple years ago.

Oh for fuck's sake...

Lutz is Lutz. Noah is a horrible attempt to "Americanize" the games. Thankfully, it was dropped when the 2nd game was translated.

Thankfully?

You should have read my post. Here, I'll quote it for you:

And I'll repeat the important part:
Dorrinal wrote:It was a deliberate and stupid decision by the localization team. Or was not changing his name in PS2 the mistake?

Why do you think it's a good thing that they stuck with Lutz in PS2?

And here's the important part of this post: Claiming that "Noah" was a poor translation decision does not validate the assertion that Noah is Lutz. You can't prove it by pointing to a different version of the story. No matter how "ideal" or "genuine" or "original" you perceive that version of the story to be.

I say Noah/Lutz are the same thing because in PS2, the espers say you're about to meet a guy who fought to save Algo. Only one team previously fought to save Algo, and this Lutz guy looks just like one of the team members -- Noah, to be exact, whose name is actually Lutz in the original, Japanese version of PS1!

Then, in PS4, Rune says Lutz went to Air Castle and took down Lashiec (Lassic) there. Well, that's the PS1 heroes' achievement, but there is no one named "Lutz" in the English version of PS1. There's Noah, who, again, is called Lutz in the Japanese version, so it's him they're referring to. And then, later on, Kyra says Lutz fought side-by-side with Alis and saved Algo. Well, there is no one called Lutz who fought alongside Alis in the English version, but there's "Noah", again who is called Lutz in the JP version. Then a picture of him comes up, and it looks just like "Noah".

The entire script of PSIV can be found here:
http://www.phantasy-star.net/psiv/psivtalk1.html

PS2:

Come back with direct quotations and no references to the Japanese version to support your argument, and we shall have an epic discussion!
