Just to stay on topic and kinda sink down my last interference, there are a few spots in the FFs I have played that I would like to point out:
-The whole thing between Cecil and Rosa (FFIV), how they come together, how Cecil has to figh for her, and how it (and why not, the sacrifices of the secondary PCs, like Syd, Palon and Poron) brings him to the Light Side of the Force (actually, a lot of bad guys' redenptions on that one). It might sound cheesy now, but was quite inspiring when I was younger :^P
-The introduction of the job system in FFV. The story was a bit too long and there weren´t many PCs available this time, so changing the character's jobs - which practically changed THE characters - made the game more interesting.
-The different paths you can follow in FFVI made the game unique for its age. There are a lot of side stories and character developments that I never saw before. And at the top, the Opera House scene was goddamn brilliant.
I can´t remember much of FFI, since I played it after these 3, and it just looked a bit down (specially considering how smothy its contemporary rival, Phantasy Star, came out). I liked these 3, and when I like a game, I can only point out the bad parts when I play again only to pay attention to the flaws. But I can say that I found it really disapointed when I jumped from Iv to V and found no plot connection between them, which made the word "sequel" irrelevant :^P
SEGA owes me money!
