If you guys don't like the Dark Force continuity, my fanfic may be in trouble... but in my opinion, if a Dark Force is released BEFORE Profound Darkness' death, I think it becomes its own entity.

Well in my fa-.... you know, I'm gonna stop talking about. XD Sounds like I'm just plugging it every chance I get. But yes, I wonder if there will be an official PSV, even though PSIV ended with the ultimate baddie.

Ridiculous!

RUNE: Listen, Chaz. Since ancient times in Algo, there has been a cycle
where calamities occur every one thousand years. That's because
a personification of evil called Dark Force is resurrected every
thousand years! Up until now, every time it occurred, a
courageous person would defeat the evil to maintain peace.

EDIT - He is a he :P

I love how these fans selectively use bits of the script to back up their argument.

Here's this part you missed out:

RUNE: Listen, Chaz. Since ancient times in Algo, there has been a cycle
where calamities occur every one thousand years. That's because
a personification of evil called Dark Force is resurrected every
thousand years! Up until now, every time it occurred, a
courageous person would defeat the evil to maintain peace.

RIKA: But we definitely did defeat Dark Force at Kuran. Yet, there's no
sign of abatement of these abnormal conditions in Algo!

CHAZ: So what's going on?

RUNE: Algo was shaken a thousand years ago by the explosion of Parma.
The delicate balance we were able to maintain was severely upset.
This might be a result of that. The Black Energy Wave can still
be felt.

CHAZ: Are you saying that Dark Force is still alive?!

RUNE: That... I don't know. But I can say that the root of all evil is
not yet destroyed!
The only thing to do is to defeat it! I have
chosen you, Chaz.

And...

RUNE: Bishop, what on earth is going on?
RIKA: The temple has vanished without a trace.
CHAZ: We've defeated Dark Force. Isn't that the end of our
work?
BSHP: 'The Profound Darkness' still exists.
CHAZ: What's 'The Profound Darkness?'
BSHP: It is the root of all evil that has wrought death and
destruction in Algo since long ago. Dark Force is but a
tool of that existence!

So there you go, hints revealing that if you conquer the main antagonist of the original series - The Profound Darkness - the cycle ends for good. No more of Dark Force recurring.

On the back of my old PSIV case, it blatantly states that this game is the FINAL CHAPTER in the series, which doesn't make any sense if this is supposedly an interquel while PSIII is the latest chapter in the series' timeline: concurrently 1000 years in the EU/US version; 2000 years in the original JAP version.

I dunno why you guys can't deal with retcons. It makes sense when you think about it.

It's the final chapter in that there won't be a Phantasy Star V.

By defeating the Profound Darkness, the cycle will end. That doesn't mean all Dark Forces in the universe will suddenly disappear, just that no new ones will be created.

Yes, it does. Cue the happy, peaceful ending of Light and Dark war being over.

Hohohoharharhar... I live on in dome world ships!

...Continued on PSIII.

Didn't happen, so it's pretty much a solid closure: "I retconned your ass, jamf."

That Phantasy Star IV didn't reference Phantasy Star III in its ending to note that the evil wasn't entirely gone doesn't mean much. Especially in the light that the game does reference the game.

PSP is gonna beat you up now.

Yeah, it makes a reference to the ships, but the PSIII story is retconned.

Phantasy Star IV didn't state that Dark Forces can't exist without the Profound Darkness, therefore it's not retconned.

Are you shitting me? I played the game dozens of times, and the storyline pretty much leads onto that.

The game was all about ending the cycle. No more, no less.

That's right. And the emergence of Dark Force every 1000 years was pretty much what the cycle was about. PSIV was meant to end that cycle for good.

PSIII doesn't make sense in the fact that Dark Force was already thwarted by Rolf/Eusis and co back in Algo (specifically Noah, where Mother Brain is situated), so it wouldn't occur until the next one thousand years. How can it suddenly go on a rampage on various spaceships and gets sealed on one of the last surviving ships. (How do you seal Dark Force when other heroes had no problem vanquishing it?) And how does the "Nei" word come about? You just say the magic word to empower your weapons to kill it? Why didn't Laya and Orakio do that in the first place?

Why does it need to do all this needless shit on PSIII when its objective is to destroy Algo, or planetary parts of it? As I said PSIV pretty much retconned PSIII as being the LAST GAME chronologically. PSIII either takes place 30-40 years after that or 1000 years later, so the story isn't consistent with PSIV's.

Essentially Dark Force is The Profound Darkness' avatar since since it assumes physical form AFTER a part of it is free from its dimensional prison - Le Roof's projections shows that its true form is a formless mass of black energy, like what The Profound Darkness is, but in a lesser state. Taking on physical forms pretty much goes along the lines of Hindu mythology, for example, where gods commonly use human or animal incarnations of themselves to manipulate human destiny. Ergo, I don't recall PSIV referring to Dark Force as being many Dark Forces when it establishes Dark Force as a singular entity and a part of The Profound Darkness. Just follow the script.

"The eons old struggle between Light and Dark has ended. Now the curtain rises to a new age."

You don't just say it's the final game unless you retcon past storylines in a series, and Sega pretty much have done in that regard.
