Just checked the walktrough in Orakio´s page. He also got stuck when getting the hovercraft. Kept returning to Casba to talk to the former owner. What triggered for him was really the iron claws in Iala Cave.
Wish we could be more helpful, dude.

I had no problems when playing the translated version. By the way, suberb work Kyence and all the crew.

Kyence, just wanna thank you again for the fantastic PSG1 translation.
For anyone having trouble, follow the walkthrough. Even if you know what's gonna happen you should follow it so you don't have any issues.

I've decided to just copy/paste the relevant part, since 'check the walkthrough' doesn't seem to be clear enough...start in Casba and do everything here, by the letter. Even if you've done it before, do it again. If you continue to have issues, just run around every town talking to everyone multiple times until their lines start to repeat.

Filipe Engleth of Phantasy Star Cave wrote:Go to the house in the upper left part of Casba and talk to the guy who lives there thrice. He will give you the hint that the townspeople of Sopia (one of the motavian villages) know where the Perseus Shield is (you should remember it as Mirror Shield from the original game), but to go there you'll need a gas mask that is sold in Drasgow. But to get there, you'll need the Hovercraft. If you use the talk function, Odin says that he needs that shield to go after Medusa and get the Laconian Axe to defeat Lassic and will show himself very thankful for everyone's help. Go back to Uzo (use Alis' magic spell to save some time) and talk to Edgar again in the house beside the hospital. He will say you gotta talk to Vivian, that girl who lives in the upper left part of the town. Talk to her and she'll give you the key to open Iala Cave. After leaving Vivian's house, go to the house beside hers. Talk to the guy twice or thrice and he will tell you that you can find the Soothing Flute, which is a flute you can use to escape from dungeons without having to use Myau's or Lutz's Exit magic spell. Now go back to the spaceship to go back to Gothic. Examine the dry tree in the lower left part of the town and you'll find the Soothing Flute (スーズフルート). Now use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) to go back to Bortevo (バルテボの村). Examine the trash pile right to the left of the save point and you'll find the Hovercraft. Hapsby says he will fix it. Well, it seems nice to use it right away to go to Drasgow, but go to Iala cave first (as Myau himself will suggest if you use the consult function) You can use Alis' Teleport to go to Scion (シオンの港町). Buy a Searchlight, leave the town and go to the southeast. You'll find the cave. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave (as Jara Cave).

EDIT: Just saw the Oct 17 PSG2 thread. SQUEEEEEE!

To the translation team/person: Thank-you so much for your hard work on this translation. You made more to us than SoA. Thank-you!

Echoes wrote:Thank you so much for translating this game! I've been waiting years to play it, but couldn't really get into it due to the language barrier.

In case anyone else encounters this problem, I had issues with the party's sprites becoming corrupted after battles while playing from my hard drive via OPL 0.8 and 0.9.1, but it seems to work just fine when played from a CD-R on a real PS2. It doesn't seem to be related to the patch though, even the unpatched version did this.

The problem that you are talking about is temporary fixed when you enter a non-sprited area (a 3D dungeon, a cut-scene or resetting)... but when you enter a fighting scenario (when you fight an enemy) every party sprite get glitched again.

It's a problem with OPL itself and has nothing to do with this patch. If you try the any original PSGen1 Japanese ISO the same problem will occur. I think OpenPS2Loader team are the only ones who can fix this. I hope this will be fixed, because while small (and while it only occurs when the party is facing down), it is a really annoying glitch. PSGen2 on the other hand doesn't seem to have this sprite issue.

So I restarted the game, made it all the way back to this point, following the guide...

No luck, same thing, stuck with no hovercraft...

Maybe the best would be to find a cheat to be able to add an item if there is really an odd bug ?

Or maybe it has to do with the ISO used? Did you tried another one ? (with the same saves)

Or did you try to send your saves just before this "bug" to someone who managed to finish the game, like Kyence for example ? (to see if the bug also occur for them with your saves).

Good news...

I checked the other thread on this topic and found another user had the same problem, datank45...

I tried out his suggestion and it made some progress.

I consulted at Bortevo while wandering and Odin finally said something different instead of Myau saying "Easy pickings..."

But I still couldn't get the hydrofoil so I decided to try the same thing with my first save, with the Iron Claw...

Consulted a bunch and finally got the hydrofoil and am now at Drasgow...

That's great news! The game programmers really overdid the linearity in this game; removing it would be an interesting challenge for an advanced game hacker. Save hacking is probably the easier way for someone to try.

I hope you don't encounter any other problems, but if you do, let us know.

Just started playing this, it's an awesome game. I want to say thanks to the translator and the people who made this happen. The Phantasy Star fandom is one of the best, they've translated all the text adventures, game gear games, even PSO2 has a translation patch. Truly great work by dedicated people.

Edit: I got stuck looking for the hovercraft too. Then I found that if you have your team talk to each other three times, on the second time Odin mentions the axe, but on the third time they mention the hydroil, which enables you to find it in Bortevo.

Also I noticed that the Blue Dragon in the Casba Cave didn't show up at all the first time, which led me to wander around for ages looking for him. Is this a known glitch?

In order to have the Casba dragon appear in the dungeon, you have to go to Casba and talk to everyone first before it appears. One of those linearity traps courtesy of SEGA AGES

Hello, excellent work on the english translation. Though why is Tylon (Tairon) still called "Odin"? I think in matter of being accurate "Tylon" would of been better than "Odin" IMO.

Second, please, to the one's that made the translation patch...
I humbly request a patch that removes the awful fog horn sound that plays whenever Alis enters and leave a building.. It's terrible. Please if some one that worked on the patch has the hex editing skills, to some how remove that aweful sound.

when the patched "Lutz version" ISO is played on PCXS2 0.9.8 the tiles of the graphics have gaps, any advice to correct this visual error (like what emulator drivers should i use) to correct this is much appreciated.

Hello. I've just discovered that an english translation has been made for this game. I've created an account in order to thank Kyence for the work he/she has provided.

Alas, I also come here to ask for help :
I own the original japanese game and it's on a CD, right.
But I only have clear DVD to burn, so I've checked the Internet for a DVD iso translated and patched version, and found one.
But all my attempts have failed : I've burned the DVDs with different speeds, and none has provided something that works. The DVD usually go past the PS2 menu, but after that I have only a black screen where nothing happens...

if anyone could provide some help, please I would be really grateful. It's been a long dream for me to play this new "old" Phantasy Star, and I still can't do it. I think I could cry, seriously...

For more information I'm using Philips DVD+R, and my PS2 is modded. I don't hink the DVD are the culprits because I've already burned a patched version of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix 2 in English and it worked (I had to do multiple tries to find the good speed, though...).

So please, help me. It's my last hope to be finally able to play this game in English.

I recommend that you prepare your DVD image yourself by following a tutorial on converting CD games to DVD. Ignore the DiscPatcher step if you don't use ESR to boot your back-ups.

You should be using DVD-R discs for your PlayStation 2.

I bought PSG:1 and 2 when they came out (so very long ago) and played them as best I could, dreaming of a time when there would be a translation. Upon returning to the PSCave, I found your translation and am now happily playing a proper playthrough. Much thanks Kyence, seriously. You're awesome.
