That would be up to Tryphon. I had originally planned to do this almost entirely myself, but I saw generation:2 was almost ready and was like, "Oh crud, I really have to get generation:1's update rolling here!" Tryphon told me he was going to release the tools to the public (Or just me?) after he had made them more user-friendly, but he hadn't had the time to work on them at all. So we decided on a compromise: he would send me the script to update and I would play test it and send him bug reports.

We're currently at Revision 6 of the script and there are only two minor cosmetic bugs left. I hope to progress pretty far on my days off, this coming Sunday and Monday. I have a doctor appointment Thursday the 29th, but other than that, I have that day off too. Let's hope I can maybe progress to Dezoris, eh?

I'll release the tools, but won't provide any support :)

What cosmetic bugs ???

dem tools

Postby darkwraith007 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 1:56 am

If the tools are available with some simple instructions on how to use them, then I can live with it.
I had to use some ancient DOS-based tools to edit Dragon Warrior 1 ROM to make my DXO1: Amnethen Apocalypse and DXO2: Easy Mode patches.

I also had to use some fairly clunky and obtuse tools to edit Shining in the Darkness for my ThornWood Terrors patch.

If your tools don't require DOS or heavy use of the command line then it'll be fine.
And if they do? Just provide some documentation or a --help function so people can figure out how to work things.

I would love something as simple to use as FFHackster but we can't have that for EVERY game, I know that much. ;)

The Phantasy Star Generations games aren't something that I'd even want to see heavily modified. Just something that ONLY lets people change specific parts of specific text for characters, npcs, items, planets, spells, gear, etc.

Just put a readme that says you aren't providing support and that will be fine. You have your own stuff to worry about so no need to provide support.
If people can't follow the instructions then they can make do with what is there.

Does anyone know on what floor the Wise Dragon is located? Is it the same as the Master System original? That's what I have to do next and none of the GameFAQs guides help. One of them just says to go find the Wise Dragon and the other doesn't explain its map key.

Wise Dragon is in Casba Cave on B3F! Not sure if it's the same as on the Master System, but that's where he is on PSG:1.

It was just aimed at translation. So you just can edit any text in the game, any graphics file, and change the font. It also implements patch to make those things work together.

And it's command-line (but quite easy : you just have to organize the files in well named directories, put the directory root name in a config file, then run the script), and uses Python.

But it's a very dirty code, for several reasons (I've learnt both python and hacking while doing this project, and at the beginning it wasn't intented to become a multi-purpose hacking tool, just help me to dump some ressources from the game for another project).

Regarding playthroughs, you can find a playthrough done by Orakio Rob in his blog.
You can get there through PSg:1's page in Gazeta de Algol.

Also, regarding the ripped resources and images from the game...
Are you guys sure there was nothing else hidden in the game files?

Maybe... Some more dungeon character sprites that may have escaped our sight? Maybe some artwork hidden candy? :shifty:

Some sprites are "hidden" (not so much in fact, but you won't find them on gazetadealgol IIRC, nor in my dumps), mainly party sprites in psgen2.

No artworks as far as I can tell, apart those already dumped on gazetadealgol for example.

"Hidden" in what sense? Could you explain it further?

Tch... It seems I'll never be capable of getting good artworks of Alisa & Friends...

They are packed in an archive file, which is itself packed in an archive file. The dump at Orakio's website were done by unpacking only once (and my dump too).

In PSGEN2, you'll find this way party sprites, along with the Jetscooter sprite. I think I posted them some years ago somewhere on this board.

For good artworks, did you check this website's fanart section ? Most of them are very amateurisch, but some are pro quality (Nak ?)

When I mean "good", I mean "official" full-body ones, unlike the incomplete ones that appeared on the extracted stuff... Not to mention Alisa and Myau didn't even get that chance... :?

Doubly packed? Dear goodness... Why the need for that? Then that means that there really may be stuff yet to unravel... I guess? And I mean in both games, of course.
