Doctor Hooves, you're right that very little hurts Re-Faze. Most of what is able to damage Re-Faze, Chaz has at his disposal, so having five characters wouldn't be much more helpful than having just one.

The ONLY things that can do more than 1 damage to Re-Faze are as follows:

-Tsu, Githu, Nathu
-Rayblade
-Physical attacks or skills with Elsydeon, Silver Tusk, or Psycho Wand equipped

If you were to give Chaz any other sword, Crosscut would do 1 damage.

This is infuriating to me. Similarly to Mr. Starbird and speedrunning, the only things left for me to do in old JRPGs are beating "unbeatable" bosses and doing otherwise ridiculous nonsense like mastering Underwater Materia in Final Fantasy VII. Re-Faze is the one that got away. It doesn't fall under "definitely not possible without serious hacking" (Zio 1, Army Eye), and it doesn't fall under "possible, but only with an unreasonable amount of grinding and some luck" (Lavos, Ocean Palace, Chrono Trigger in a regular new game on the original SNES or PSX version).

It's somewhere in the middle and has had me on a wild goose chase trying to pull it off for years.

Army Eyes can be beaten without cheating?
I don't recall that happening. Although it's been a long time since I last read anything PS -related...

No, Army Eyes definitely cannot be beaten without cheating. Perhaps I worded it wrong.

Slightly OT but I remember beating Medusa without Mirror Shield the first time I played PSI. :P
I also beat Saccubus. But that took several tries, unlike Medusa.

I have beaten Medusa with no Mirror Shield before, too. Not on my first playthrough though.

If you try to run on a specific frame, it'll actuall work, and the game will act as if the Army Eyes (or any other boss you were up against) have been beaten.
Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

... and (IIRC) then the game "ends". Dams are open, everyone is safe, nothing more left to do. Just the ending credits don't follow after that. :P

I have a new sense of optimism after something I tested was somewhat successful!

I replaced Chaz's Guard Mail with a Psy Mail. The defense boost from the Psy Mail is considerably weaker, BUT it gives +3 Mental, which seems to reduce the damage from Megid ever so slightly. It would still be virtually impossible without save state abuse (Re-Faze going first even once or getting even an average damage output from Megid would result in failure), but I think it *can* be done at this point. Maybe.
