Putting on the Psy-Mail instead of the Guard-Mail is the key. It reduces the damage that Chaz takes ever so slightly, so with a ton of save state abuse (thus ensuring that 3 castings of Megid does less than 635 damage to Chaz, enabling him to use Crosscut twice for every Sol-Dew), you can win with room to spare.

Without save state abuse...it is THEORETICALLY possible.

I'm taking a little break right now. Chaz has 26 Sol-Dews remaining, 364 TP, 29 Crosscut charges remaining (and 21 Rayblade charges), and Re-Faze has 27,295 HP remaining.

The 29 Crosscuts will combine to do around 15,515 damage (535 average). After they are used up, along with one Rayblade (average ~410), Re-Faze will have 11,370 HP left, and Chaz will have 11 Sol-Dews remaining. He will have one Sol-Dew left after knocking off another 8,200 HP, leaving 3,170. After attacking (~380) twice, he can use his final Sol-Dew, leaving 2,410 HP. After that, he will start using Nares twice and attacking once. It would take 40 castings of Nares to deplete his TP, and he won't need nearly that many. Seven attacks should finish the job, leaving Chaz victorious with room (238 TP) to spare.

Re-Faze is under 20000 (19897 HP). 16 Crosscut charges left, 20 Sol-Dews left, a full 364 TP, 21 Rayblade charges (not sure if they're better than just attacking).

Man, this is quite the war of attrition. More than halfway home.

RIP Re-Faze

It's ridiculous that a fellow like him could consider himself worthy of beating a Protector wielding Elsydeon!

"Normally"...not really, but I did prove that it's actually theoretically possible to do it on a console if you get ridiculously lucky.

If you're going to try this...first of all, don't. Seek professional help. But if you do decide to try, make sure you get a Psy-Mail for Chaz and be prepared to hit "Load State" a few hundred times.

I do have a video of part of the battle. It's an .avi that is about 42 minutes long. I didn't bother to record the whole thing, because I didn't think it was working. If you really want to see the whole battle and ask really nicely, maybe I'll record it from start to finish, but it's incredibly tedious (and wouldn't be fun to watch anyway).

If you want to see just the final hit, look here:

I tested another hypothetical: Level 4 Chaz with the Shadowblade equipped. I thought his 255 mental might cause Megid to do 1 damage, thus enabling Chaz to attack 32,767 times for 1 damagr each while using the Woodcane to heal.

It didn't work.
