Thanks!
Ten years ago or so I wrote a full new script of Rhys campaign (I was bored at college).
It goes like this (as far as I can remember):
Facts relevant to his quest:
* Everybody knows they are living on a spaceship heading nowhere.
* Everybody knows they are survivors that escaped from a cataclysm that destroyed Palma/Parma following the events of PSII.
* An inferior version of Mother Brain was installed onboard Alisa III to watch over all automated protocols that controlled every aspect of the spaceship, it was called "Master Brain", and its immense network connecting all other domes is located below Aridia, its premises and facilities are miles under the surface of Aridia and are forbidden to palman presence, this location was nicknamed "Grey Matter". Master Brain was also programmed to make use of automated defenses and security robots to promptly eliminate possible intruders.
* Aridia was a terraformed dome just like the others, in fact its central location made it the "capital hub" of Alisa III in terms of population, culture and politics.
* Aridia was turned into a radiated and toxic barren wasteland following the events of the Orakian-Layan wars. Master Brain did not interfere as it was not programmed to do so.
* With the war finally over, the exahusted armies of Orakio scrapped most of their war equipment to build and expand colonies in other inhabitable domes, the Wren series of combat cyborgs were all dumped and left to rot in Aridia because they were to expensive to maintain.
* The female Mieu series of assassin cyborgs were reused for domestic/servitor/bodyguarding purposes. Miun, the very first prototype, disappeared without a trace.
* After the war, orakian and layans signed a "truce". Orakians got the left belt (Landen, Elysium, Frigidia), Layans got the right belt (Aquatica, Draconia, Terminus). The "pipes" connecting both belts were forcefully closed by the Orakians to prevent further contact. Orakians keep a constant watch of the pipes to make sure they remain sealed.
*Orakians continued to adopt a more industrialist, patriarchal and technological approach to their daily lives. Layans focus on understanding the nature behind living things, the inner self, vegetarianism, feminism etc. relinquishing any and all interactions with machines and "advanced" technology becoming master of "magic".
* Aridia became a "prison-dome", as the Orakian Belt governments now dumps criminals and any persona non grata to fend for themselves as the laws prevent them from being executed. These survivors would gather from time to time and converge to found and expand the gigantic junk city of Hazatak upon the ruins of the former capital (no robots living there, only scavengers, smugglers, slave traders, dealers etc.)
* Orakian's bloodline is based in the city of Landen and its royal family ruled over the dome by sheer military strength. The sole master of the dome was entitled "Domarch" and each other orakian dome would have a "Domarch". The 03 Domarchs would gather on a regular basis to discuss issues concerning the belts.
* Yaata, a Landen port province, is the main agricultural/food distributor of the dome.
* Ilan, also a province under Rhys' father rule, is the academic/educational/cultural hub of the dome. All Artificers would be graduated there.
* The island only accessible by boat where Lyle hands over the Sapphire is now a major city, Orakia, the religious center of the dome, and home of the, pun intended, Oracles (all female) and where the Zealots undergo training in the infested mountains surrounding the colossal Temple of Orakio (home of the oracles).
* Zealots are the "Heroes" and elite agents of the O-Belt, male Palmans that reached their physical and mental apex, masters in the use of blades, shields and firearms. All of them coming from the noble Patrician families that rule over the domes. Rhys is a zealot and heir to the Dome of Landen, just like his father.
* Satera, now located at the far west of Landen is a mining/industrial colony that supplies other cities with manufactured products such as alloys, composite materials, plastic, rubber, etc.
Some more stuff I remember (kind of):
* Orakians and Layans create their own languages.
* Orakians defaulf color is black: black capes, black buildings, black armor, black vehicles, etc. in line with the mourning Cult of Orakio. Layans are more esper-ish, they favor white.
*
Mieu is the personal guard of the Landen royal family.
* Orakian harsh society causes small rebellious pockets to flee cities and turn into outlaws assaulting caravans and travellers.
* Heavily dependent on technology, Orakian artificers and scientists create "orbs": floating spheres that follow their users, their functionality is exactly like today's cellphones: check/reply messages, send/receive files, make calls, video chats, take pictures, flashlight and GPS features etc.
* Layans against the imposed blockade would gather as 'Geomancers' and start digging tunnels inside mountains to hide an ambitious project: open magic portals leading to other domes, such portals would only open with a specific magic-infused gem (Sapphire, Topaz, Ruby, etc.). Portals to Aridia are successfully tested.
* Layan druids converged to Aridia to try terraformation experiments using magic but are attacked by Miun, they are all killed but Miun is badly damaged.
* To prevent another disastrous incursion into Orakian and neutral territories, Layans exploring other domes in secrecy erected Teleportation Chambers, nicknamed Temples, that would allow Layans to instantly teleport to another Temple.
* The magical prorperties of such temples caused nature to grow all around it effectively concealing them.
* Portals and Temples are eventually opened into Orakian Territory with the condition that they must remain close to each other.
* Orakian governments are aware of Layan activity and meet to discuss the issue. They agree to leave Layans doing such experiments but keep a close watch on them.
* Layans decide to stop visiting Orakian domes for unknown reasons. Temples are shut down. Domarchs vote not to destroy the Temples for "scientific" reasons.
* Domarchs remain curious on how Layans reached their domes, unaware of the Portals hidden within mountain caves.
* Attempts to study the Temples produced no conclusive results. Orakians gave up studying the temples.
* Orakian governments decide to keep the existence of such temples a secret from the common people.
* Dahlia is the artificial SUN of the Spaceship, a colossal reactor capable of generating enough photonic and UV power to illuminate domes as it rotates around Alisa III. In opposite orbit, Azura were the eyes of Master Brain, scanning and diagnosing domes for anomalies as it passed by. Both 'moons' are forbidden to palman presence just like Grey Matter. Both 'moons' could also be turned into weapons to protect Alisa III from any sort of external risks, from passing meteors to alien invaders.
* Shushoran is not a kingdom, but a fortress-province under the rule of Cille where Elementalists (practitioners of fire, wind, water and earth techs) were trained.
* The lost squadron of Agoe becomes trapped in Aquatica and its survivors found a military camp in the mountains south of Shushoran, they would still wage war against the Layans to the north every now and then.
Rhys quest in terms of gameplay (500 years or so after the above facts):
TUTORIAL:
01. Maia and a committee of diplomats open the Portal connecting Aquatica to Landen using a Sapphire owned by Maia.
02. On their way to Landen (State), they are attacked by marauders, everyone is killed, Maia attempts to teleport herself to the entrance of the cave where the Portal she came from lies (a tech similar to Ryuka). She is knocked out and taken by the assailants before finishing casting the spell.
03. Scanners detect unknown presence in Landen. Reconnaissance and patrol robots find dead Layans near the beach southeast of Landen. Corpses attract wild animals (biomonsters).
04. Rhys' uncle (can't remember his name), head of intelligence, sends Rhys and two robomen (inferior versions of Wren) to investigate and retrieve the bodies.
05. Rhys arrives at the scene piloting Hovers (speeder-like bikes). <- TUTORIAL ON HOW TO DRIVE VEHICLES
06. Rhys follows the trail of the marauders to their camp.
07. Rhys fights them and rescue Maia. <- TUTORIAL ON HOW TO ENGAGE IN TURN-BASED/PARTY BATTLE.
08. Rhys takes them to Landen.
09. Maia suffers from Amnesia and interrogation attempts are not successful.
10. His uncle orders her to be imprisoned but Rhys protests against such decision.
11. Rhys father is not yet sure what to do with a amnesiac Layan woman but according to her clothes, jewels and manners, including the fact she can speak Orakian he knows she is a high-ranking officer from whatever she originally came from. Maia is allowed to walk among the Landen nobility, but always escorted.
12. Rhys and Laya become close friends and fall in love. Maia teaches him Layan language. Their relationship is kept secret.
13. At this point in the game, the player can visit 'Mentors' to learn more about the new game aspects:
- His uncle can be visited to challenge Rhys in VR environments where the player can practice STEALTH.
- His father can be visited to challenge Rhys in VR environments where the player can practice DUELS.
- Mieu can be visited to challenge Rhys in VR environments where the player can practice RACING.
- The High Marshall of Landen Armies can be visited to challenge Rhys in VR environments where the player can practice TURN-BASED/PARTY BATTLE (similar to the classic PS style) and how to SCAN enemies using Orbs. (This is to collect info on every enemy the player finds in order to feed a MONSTERPEDIA)
14. Word spreads out across the Orakian Belts that a Layan woman is living in Landen. Both Domarchs of Elysium and Frigidia fear she is a Layan spy with second intentions and vote to send her to the prison dome of Aridia.
15. With no option left, Rhys father communicates the decision to Rhys. They argue and Maia overhears them, filled with despair she unwillingly triggers her teleport tech and vanishes. The noise attracts Rhys but he cannot find her except for the scorched mark left on the floor caused by the spell.
16. Rhys vows to find her but his father forbids him to go on such quest and tells him that such nonsense will cause Rhys to be exiled.
END OF TUTORIAL:
17. Angered, Rhys exiles himself, and leaves his cape, armor and weapons at the throne room saying he will not return without Maia. <- RHYS IS BACK AT LVL 1 WITH NO ADVANCED GEAR.
18. With only his orb and subpar equipment, Rhys sets course to the abandoned Layan Temple to the southeast in hopes that it is functional and that Maia came from there. (remember: Orakians are not aware of the cave portals). Rhys mutes his orb after receiving successive calls from his family. <- CONTACT LIST HAS NO NAMES.
19. Rhys is ambushed and attacked by the same bandits he fought months ago. He fights valiantly but is overwhelmed and captured. <-TURN-BASED SECTION
20. In the gang's hideout, a mysterious woman appears and frees Rhys, she introduces herself as Lena from Satera, Rhys recognizes her as one of the many housemaids working for Rhys family. She tells him that she is actually a spy sent by the Governor of Satera. Rhys seems shocked by her confession and asks her why she is following him.
21. Lena does not answer and instead tell Rhys to retrieve his equipment and leave at once without being seen. <- STEALTH SECTION
22. Rhys finds the gang's hover bikes and steals one of them. Lena helps him escape as she distracts the enemies but some of them still follows Rhys on their hovers. <- RACING SECTION.
23. Lena calls Rhys and tells him that she is okay and to look for Maia near the beach where he found her party. <- LENA ADDED TO CONTACTS.
Meanwhile:
Rhys uncle, who is actually the "typical evil uncle that wants to steal the throne from his unworthy brother" tells the Domarch that he will send Mieu to find Rhys and bring him back. Desolated with recent past events, Rhys' father agrees. In secrecy, Mieu is reprogrammed to KILL Rhys. Mieu leaves Landen alone.
23. Rhys searches the area indicated by Lena and to his surprise he sees a sad and apathetic Maia in the distance walking further into the sea, he calls and runs towards her. He suddenly stops and draws a needler he acquired after looting the outlaws hideout and points it at Maia, she looks terrified with his move. Rhys opens fire at the large winged monster emerging just behind her . The creature, even though injured, captures Maia with its talons and fly away. Rhys falls to his knees.
24. His grief is interrupted by his Orb as it alerts him of a presence. Mieu arrives and tell Rhys to come back to Landen with her. Rhys' orb scans and detects a virus in Mieu's system.
25. Rhys is aware of Mieu's intentions and fights her. <- DUEL SECTION (similar to a fighting game)
26. Rhys takes a destroyed Mieu to Ilan where his friend, an artificer and inventor, resides as a college professor.
27. Rhys tells his friend (lets call him Boris) of what happened and asks him to repair Mieu and remove the virus.
28. Boris is reluctant at first but do as Rhys asked. Mieu is rebuilt with her original protocols. Boris tells Rhys that his father can track him through Mieu and will always know Rhys location. <- MIEU ADDED TO THE PARTY.
29. Rhys is desperate to find the creature that kidnapped Maia but such creature is not cataloged in any database. Boris tells Rhys to go to Orakia and seek advice from the Oracles. As a Zealot, Rhys can visit ther Oracles whenever he wants. <- BORIS ADDED TO CONTACTS.
30. Rhys heads to Yaata's port and finds the city under heavy patrol. Rhys and Mieu disguise themselves as pilgrims and go aboard a ship to Orakia.
31. At Orakia, Rhys and Mieu leave the safe route to the moutain top and head into the caves at the foot of the mountain that leads to the Temple. The caves are filled with biomonsters. <- TURN-BASED ENCOUTERS.
32. Upon reaching the Temple gate, Rhys and Mieu are denied entrance to the Temple by the two Zealots acting as gatekeepers. Rhys must prove to them he is still worthy of Orakio's bless <- TURN-BASED BOSS BATTLE
33. Defeated, the gatekeepers grant Rhys access to the Oracles. Mieu, an artificial being, is not allowed to enter and must wait outside.
34. Rhys questions the mysterious-masked women about recent events and Maia. The Oracles inform him that he must travel east to find her and tells him to leave. Rhys has more questions but the Oracles remain silent.
35. Upon reaching the outskirts of the city below, they find it under quarantine. Soldiers from Landen engage them. Rhys and Mieu must fight their way back to the port. <- NON-LETHAL TURN-BASED ENCOUNTERS (enemies below 0 hp will have always 1 hp left and give up fighting)
36. Upon reaching the port, they must sneak into one of the departing ships as the port is filled with soldiers and scanners. <- STEALTH SECTION
37. Heading east, Rhys finds the Layan Temple among the woods believing it is once again functional.
38. Rhys and Mieu are attacked by a Layan in white robes and green hair. He tells Rhys that their presence in the temple is an insult to Laya.
39. Rhys demands access to the Temple and threatens to attack him if he fails to comply.
40. The Layan introduces himself as Lyle and tells Rhys that the temple is not functional. Lyle offers Rhys a different way to reach the path where that temple leads to.
41. Rhys and Mieu agree to follow Lyle to the mountains near the limits of the dome where Landen connects to Aquatica.
42. Lyle tells Rhys that the caves inside lead to Aquatica. Rhys is not convinced. Lyle explains him that long ago Layans built Portals inside caves to travel between domes using specific gems.
43. Rhys and Mieu are inside the caves, Lyle informs him that it is inhabited by biomonsters. Lyle also informs him that he will not fight them as per Laya's laws. Rhys and Mieu fight their way to other side past the Portal. <- 2D BEAT 'EM UP SECTION (similar to Streets of Rage, Final Fight etc.)
44. The trio reaches a frozen Aquatica. Lyle explains to Rhys that the weather is not supposed to be like that and tells him to head to Rysel, a Layan port town to rest. Lyle gives the Sapphire to Rhys and tells him to show it to the Matriach of the city so she will know that Lyle sent them and that they come in peace.
More on that later... Lemme know what you think. =)
