I think I found a Phantasy Star reference

Postby The PS Logo » Sat Mar 05, 2005 4:35 am

This is all from the Official F-Zero GX website at http://www.f-zero.com

Image
The entire region of Aeropolis is controlled by a super computer. The central control unit, called "Mother-Q," stores and computes detailed information on all Aeropolis citizens to create the ideal living environment. Because of dramatic population increases, Mother-Q has been forced to build towering skyscrapers to house the ever-increasing Aeropolis community.

Heh, actually, that "super intelligent computer built to control all aspects of life and then going wacko" concept was not created in PS2. It was already quite a cliché by the time the game was made.

I see. I thought PS2 was the first game that incorporated the "super intelligent computer" aspect.
But what I thought gave this reference a bit more credibility was the "Mother" part of the name and that F-Zero GX was co-produced by Sega.

Funniest thing... In Super Mario RPG I thought I found one, too. Later in the game when you go back to the Mushroom Kingdom, there's a person sleeping in the guest room that mentions a "mother brain."

Isn't 'Mother Brain' a sort of... overused name, though?

It could be... But I've always wondered about that. :?
The thingamigger says, "I'm resting up for Mother Brain." or something along those lines... I'm playing the game again, so I'll have to double-check. :)

That could be a Metroid reference, in Super Mario RPG.
-Corey

Then does Metriod also have a Mother Brain? I've never played it. :p

I think one of the "Conversations Within Elsydeon" even made fun of the PSII/Metroid "Mother brain duo."

There is much dispute as to who used the name 'Mother Brain' first...
Metroid and PS2 both used it at about the same time.
It's a overly used sci-fi name anyway.

It all originated from that blasted movie series, 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel 2010...the idea of a super intellegent computer was galvanized when HAL made 'his' appearance in 2010 and then the idea of an intellegent AI became a media snowball for all arena of entertainment, so to speak.

Theoretically Metroid came out way before Phantasy Star II..
So Metroid had Mother Brain first.

Why did you post a Metroid Zero Mission screenshot?!
You need to beat ZM and then play the original metroid from 1987.
You will find a game with NO clue where to go, Huge labyrinths to explore..
You must find 5 missiles to get the long beam, then go from there. You will need to beat Kraid, Ridley and then only then can you get to Tourian. But you can't beat Tourian or get to MB without the ice beam. You must give up wave beam for ice beam.
Metroid will be the hardest game you ever played, and something tells me a gamer like you will tire of it.
There are only 3 bosses in Metroid: Kraid, Ridley and Mother Brain. No Space Pirates at all.
