On this #8 seems a bit like Mother Brain. And if ya tie in number 3, you will have something to add to certain PS theories.

apparently whoever made that list didn't read "The Time Machine". In #2, they were wrong. It was the Morloch's that ruled the Eloi...

Well, seeing that topic, I might take that opportunity to ask to the people coming on this board one thing.

Who believes in a New Wo.rld Order coming soon (let's see, taking advantage of the climatic and economic crisis and a few social issues coming soon) Let's say, in the next 20 years.

And who believes in internet rumors about the amero.

Finally, who knows Chomsky?

My intent here is to open a debate on those because debating about something might be the best option to see what makes sense and what doesn't.

The Roman Empire is as close to a forcefully unified planet that we've ever come. It was, unless I'm mistaken, in control of 1/3 the earth's total population.

1) Others have tried... had some success... but failed in the end (duh).

2)Study World War 2. In particular, anything you can find on military desicion making regarding (Adolf)Hitler and (Joseph)Stalin. Stalin research can (should) go back as far as 1902.

3) Machines? Possible, but I doubt if it's likely. Man is fathomlessly arrogant, but paranoid enough to have an escape button. What man, with power, doesn't have a fail-safe strategy?

4) weren't we talking about Phantasy Star?

You're right, we were talking about Phantasy Star, brain data saving and mother brain like machine dictatorship sure sounds like PSII.

Nonetheless, it's one of the recurrent idea you can find in sci - fi books like 1984 or "the best world" (not sure about the title in English).

The second book seems to have been a real source of inspiration for PS2 (with people being dumbed down and lead like sheep).
It is a source of inspiration for phantasy star 2 but also for anime like cap'tain Harlock from Leiiji Matsumoto.

A thesis you can relate to when you see the overwhelming dumb TV shows (TV series, music... that don't help to forge one's personality).

Finally, the sex with robots being postponed to 2050, our generation won't be able to enjoy taking advantage of their I.doll (the sex doll from apple) hehehe.

At the risk of sounding a little too politically charged here, I can see many lessons from Phantasy Star 2 when it comes to politics not just in America, but the world.
How many places in the world have disarmed populations ?
How many people arent employed, and how many choose not to work and have the government take care of them ? Reminds me of the people in PS2 who said, "I don't have to work because Mother Brain will take care of me". Replace Mother Brain with The Government.
Mother Brain also took advantage of Rolf and co.'s actions to clamp down on the whole population of Mota. Unless, you think Mother Brain really dispatched all those robot guards and imposed a curfew just to stop Rolf.
The whole population of Mota couldn't even fight back if they wanted to, because the weapons (and ammo) were so insanely expensive, and there was probably a lot of red tape.
There were so many people who wanted Mother Brain to have even more control of them. They just couldn't fathom that there could be a motive behind mother brain, or that it was possible for their freedoms to be taken away from them. They didn't think that Tyranny could ever come back. That is, until there was a robot guard every where and they werent allowed to leave the city or go our at night.
The things in the USA are not quite that bad... yet. But anyone with a good sense of discernment can see that this is the road we're heading down.

Many fools would gladly give up several smaller freedoms in exchange for the dillusion of actual freedom, but there are people who recognize what's happening and WILL let the world know before it goes too far.

You forget, when our soldiers go off to foreign lands they believe they are fighting and dieing for freedom. Freedom for their loved ones at home who have bury them and live day to day with that constant reminder. Do you seriously believe Americans would let tryanny be done upon them?

Your theory is sound but america will see it's own government torn down before it see's their god-given freedoms stripped from them.

No, I believe we will see the end of the U.S.A. before we see a tyrannical rule.

If there's going to be Mother Brain... don't forget Musk Cats! Intelligent talking cats that get super powers when eating a certain type of nuts... it's possible, in theory. :)

Fact #2 is also true in the PS universe, gotta love those dezolisians. :D
