Dark Energy
Chapter 13
Entering Zema in the afternoon, it seems to be just another sleepy town, but as we made our way north, a collection of tents in the north were abuzz with activity. People were scurrying from tent to pavilion and tunnel, doing who knows what. Dora steps in front of us. DIG TEAM! FRONT AND CENTER!
I'm not sure, but I think Dora is louder than Etirn's weapon. Everybody stops what they were doing and group in front of us. Listen, the Principal has responded to our request for people. This guy is Etirn. He's the technology person, and the one in charge for now. The girl with the goofy ears is Marika, and if I understood correctly, don't piss her off.
Hey!
I felt insulted by Dora's comments.
Dora looks at me with an earnest look of confusion. What? Isn't that what that fighter guy meant by you being an animal?
No, it was a figure of speech.
Oh.
Looking back at the group of workers, Okay, you can try to piss her off, but I still don't recommend it.
I could feel my face turn red as I close my eyes and start counting under my breath.
I hear Etirn start laughing and put a hand on my shoulder. What, Etirn?
Relax. There are a few differences between Motavian culture and our own.
Dora continues, Alright. The last one is Akkosua. The girls are here for the critters we saw. If you have any questions, MAKE SURE you talk to one of these three before you poke it with a stick, got it? Alright, get back to work!
With that, everybody goes back to what they were doing. Dora turns to Etirn. Alright, what do you need right now?
What dangers are currently present in the ruins?
Etirn gets down to business.
Beyond the typical risks in a damaged ruin, there are a few machines that'll chase you around and spit small metal things at you that really hurt if you don't wear armor, and an occasional critter. Nothing too bad.
Good. I want you to take Akkosua, and lead her to the monster machines you mentioned at the briefing. I'll guide myself to the system core. Marika, you mind coming with me? I want someone to help if I manage to get the damn thing to talk about this place.
Sure. I'll just leave my bag here.
I drop the bag, and put on my claws.
Akkosua gets right into complaining, however, So much for having a drink, first.
Etirn says, Get used to it. Happy hour ain't 'til five in this area, anyway. Move out.
Dora drags Akkosua into the tunnel before she can object. Etirn stops a small Motavian, and gives him a couple meseta. Hey, man. Could you take this bag to Marika's tent?
Sure, thanks!
Alright, let's go.
