If the prevailing opinions of those cowards who believe that small countries can fend for themselves, had won over..
WW I and WWII we never would have entered.
Imagine that affect. No Korean war either..
Sometimes a stronger country has to stand up for a weaker one, Just like the stronger person stands up for the weak in the face of a bully or adversaty.
The weak must be protected by the strong, For the weak do not deserve to suffer.
Circa WW II, People over here knew what was happening to the jews, But the stupid conservatives prevailed, Nothing was done.
All those lives could have been saved..
But it really doesn't matter does it? Defending the weak isn't a possibility anymore it seems. We've become a selfish nation, Most of our youth has become selfish pricks who believe they are entitled to everything, racism suits, and believe that only they matter. No one else, To hell with everyone else.
I guess a country like Taiwan deserves to be massacred and slaughtered, with no bigger nation to defend it.
Just like the European countries deserved it in WW II eh?
Is that what you fools believe? The ones who are against the US aiding Taiwan?
I'd not wish to be in your shoes when the guilt hits..
The innocent and children do not deserve to suffer in war. If I have to change my beliefs to agree with the US protecting Taiwan, then I can be happy with the lives saved. It is a small sacrifice to save the ones who do not deserve to suffer.
Why is it so had to make that concedence?
[Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1111366593[/TIME]]

Even at the cost of your country's national security, Khyron?
Do you realise the possibility of facing a powerful adversary, and you really think that the United States and its allies would come out of it with minimal casulties?

Nothing is gained without sacrifice..
We faced a powerful enemy in WW 1/2 and Korea.
The true reason war is raged is for greed, resources.
Principals like protecting the weak is how the soldiers deal with the truth. How they deal with the slaughtering of innocents.
A soldier will always believe his country is in it to protect the weak, That is what matters. HEART, patriotism.
I would rather we made a attempt, than to see the people of Taiwan butchered.
Even if it's a PEACE attempt, treaty, I still want it done
We don't have to fire a shot to help, SOmething must be done.
If the strong don't protect the weak, then what reason do you have to be proud of your strength, or yourself?

Someone famous (forgot who) once said, "The concept of war was that it was never meant to end; it was meant to be continuous."
I believe that to be true.
Khyron, I agree with you that we should first get involved by diplomatic means when necessary, but I do not think that we (U.S and probably Britain) should send our armies to be in front of the fire if the Chinese have not mistreated the Taiwanese citizens in any shape or form when conquered.
"Jaw-jaw is better than war-war." -- Winston Churchill
And besides, I think the Chinese are bluffing on this. I don't think they would rage war mainly with the Americans when their economy is booming due to trading with the West.

What I meant was, whether you're on one side of the debate or the other, that debate is doing more good then the apathy of the fool who decides that he doesn't care, and that others can do the thinking for him. I believe that there are certain places in the world where society is decadent and comfortable enough that the citizens start growing complacent. At some point, they decide that it's easier to let others make the descisions. I think that we should reject this. People need to make their own critical opinions, not sit idly by while events that shape their world fly by.
I wasn't criticizing your unwillingness to take up arms.

Conquest is not always a bad thing. Taiwanese and Chinese are actually the same people, just with different political alignment. Macao and Hong Kong were, in much smaller scale, like Taiwan too, and now are part of China, completely adapted to the Chinese system (that in return had to adapt itself to take advantage of those cities potentials). I think genocide is out of question, because it would be chineses against chineses, Hans against Hans, relatives against relatives. There´s no sense of racial superiority like the one that led the nazis to kill jews and gipsies. Without genocide, violation of human rights, and violation of war rules, I don´t think that an international coalition would be necessary - unless economical elements rule the process. In a war, there is always the stronger and the weaker part, always a winner and a loser. The best we could do is to prevent wars at all costs, but when they start and it´s not against us, we should stay away and just watch for injustices and abuses.
If China really invades Taiwan, would that be necessarily a bad thing? We are here because the romans conquered dozens of smaller tribes and civilizations and assimilated them almost completely in a way they ceased to exist as identifiable cultures, and yet we are here. We all see this as a good consequence of the roman expansion, don´t we?

The Earthmen´s plan. If there was something to be learned from that game is that people become complacent when they have an easy life by lending responsabilities to someone else, becoming uncapable of a fair judgement and even to form a genuine opinion about anything, and as the consequence, they became unable to carry on their lives when they lose that support. They get weakened, the apparent stability actually on the edge of a total collapse..
Some call video games futile. I say that anything that you read, do, play, live, and you don´t take a lesson from it, it becomes futile, meaningless, no matter if it´s video game or Shakespeare. If you learn anything from what you read, do, play, live, then it is useful and meaningful.

I was thinking of the PSII parrellel while I was typing it, actually. The words "complacent" and "decadent" describe what became of the Palmans perfectly.
