well it seems like you dont need anymore advice on what to do, but i would still like to share my opinion on this.
a friend of mine several years ago fell into the wrong crowd at highschool. i think actually the way i recall it, he started dating this girl who introduced him to pot. from her was introduced to other people who did it and so on. from there i dont know exactly what happened, im not one to stick my nose where it doesnt belong, but i do know he started drinking heavily and doing other drugs besides pot. he started getting very rebellious acting like his parents were keeping him down when all they were doing was trying to protect him. violent mood swings, severe depression and such things were pretty common. eventually his parents sent him off to rehab after wich he seemed to even out a bit but then he settled back into his old habits. to rehab and, as he says, the looney bin. hes 'fine' now but he is on some meds and there are days where he will sleep the entire day and night only waking up occasionally to smoke a cigarette or use the restroom... most of the time though, he seems pretty 'normal' if you can consider anything to be normal.
on the other hand, one of the smartest guys i used to go to school with smoked pot. i havnt talked to him since he graduated, he was a year ahead of me. but he ate healthy, was on the track team, ran for fun, and he smoked pot on the side...
i would say how bad it gets depends on the person. im not going to say only stupid people smoke pot or even that only stupid people let it run their lives... it just depends on their personality. so yeah, just throwing my 3 cents out there.

I have to go with Mono 100% Just the prosses of it gettgin here costs lives of innoccent(and none innocent) people. I'm currintly taking Criminal Law classes so i know most of the things that happen along these lines and trust me its not worth, going into a techno colored dream word, their are much beter hobbies, and he can subdue that kind of thing if his mind is put to it, but if He'd rather just throw his life, money, and people who love him down the drain, then i have no idea of what to say to you Shell, all i can say is to talk with him, if he getts extremely aggerivated, from just talking to him about "his" problem then i think you should spend a little time apart..... sorry i was never really good at giveing good advice......~_~

[Edit by Etra McGarl on [TIME]1111771145[/TIME]]

No etra your not, no offense....
Shell:
I know alot about what you're going through, my best friend has the exact problem. My advice may not be of help, but i'll try it anyway. Your best thing to do, is wait it out...It seems odd advice, yes BUT it dopes work. If his addiction becomes a much much larger problem, You have to get him serious help...Take a chance and try and get him to head to some sort of clinic around. My friend is at the present moment breaking up with her boyfriend because he came at her violently...I'm not saying break-up or anything just pay very very very close attention to any signs that are dropped

Ein, it's always better to prevent than to cure. I don't think waiting is the answer.

Thats true, all marijuana cases are different, I'm speaking out of experience...
SPeaking about the prevent over cure issue...
Preventing would be stopping it before it starts....Curing is fixing what has happened....
In war, you should wait untill the enemy grows restless...Do not wait too long though. When it becomes restless it is at a vulnerable point. Likme a surge of emotions, Rational sense is blinded....

This guy got a very nice but kinda depressed girl as his girlfriend. So they started dating and he apparently loved her. He introduced her to pot because he smoked it, and she really liked it... too much. She got addicted and wanted to do it more and more. This guy thought it was great until she started smoking pot twice as much as him. He tried to get her to slow down, but she wouldn't. So instead of admitting that he smoked pot with her and trying to seek help, he dumped her. I don't know what happened to her since then.
It's this sort of thing that I'm worried about. He introduces people to pot but doesn't take responsibility later.
And I know not everyone who smokes pot is bad. I have a friend with a promising future and a lot of responsibility who smokes on occasion. It's just I dont want someone I'm committed to to do something that is illegal and could turn into a problem.
I mean, really, is it that hard not to smoke for your girlfriend?

I mean, really, is it that hard not to smoke for your girlfriend?

Perhaps, if he's become too addicted and doesn't care about anything at all but his drug. But fortunately, not that many people are like that.

[Edit by Wolf 10 on [TIME]1111781418[/TIME]]

The situation is resolved! And with a happy ending!
For those who would like the inner workings of the resolution:
Although I'm still mad at him for smoking pot, my boyfriend did it because his friend (whose house he was staying at for the week) has been hanging out with even shadier company.
This guy, we'll call him "Bob" (not to offend any Roberts on the board), has anger management issues and is very pig-headed and stubborn. Well, Bob has been over my boyfriend's friend's house all the time to smoke. He started giving my boyfriend a really hard time, and since my boyfriend had to put up with the guy for a week, he did it just to get Bob off his back.
On a positive note, my crying over the phone and being mad at my boyfriend for smoking was loud enough that Bob overheard it. My boyfriend had to explain that it was what happened when he smoked, and Bob left him alone the rest of the week. Consequently, Bob thinks I'm a (female dog), for nagging my boyfriend so, but I'm happy because I got my point across.
My boyfriend was mad at me and defensive because even though he did the wrong thing, he didn't want me to treat him like a child. He was more upset because he felt like I didn't respect his decisions. He assured me he's not the type of guy to start smoking and said he'd never do it again. He also said he wouldn't forget the discussion this time, and that he didn't know it was that big a deal to me.
He hadn't told me any of this during the week because Bob was always within earshot of the phone.
So things worked out... ^_^
Thank you everyone for supporting me during this. My boyfriend really didn't think smoking pot was that bad, but I used some of your comments (especially Mono's about not the smoking, but the producing and smuggling effects of pot on people and society) to help me make my boyfriend see that pot is detrimental to more than just those who smoke it. I don't think he's about to try to get his friends to stop, but I'm comfortable enough to be sure that he won't try to smoke again in the future.
Thanks, everyone.

Being a resident of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I'm often mistaken for being a pot smoking, prostitute-laying, clog-dancing, tulip-picking idiot with a funny Ghh-sound in his voice.
I resent such assumptions... after all...
I'm a non-smoking, prostitute avoiding, clog-burning, tulip picking idiot with a funny Ghh-sound in his voice. :D

[Edit by H Hog on [TIME]1111876636[/TIME]]
