The situation is resolved! And with a happy ending!
For those who would like the inner workings of the resolution:
Although I'm still mad at him for smoking pot, my boyfriend did it because his friend (whose house he was staying at for the week) has been hanging out with even shadier company.
This guy, we'll call him "Bob" (not to offend any Roberts on the board), has anger management issues and is very pig-headed and stubborn. Well, Bob has been over my boyfriend's friend's house all the time to smoke. He started giving my boyfriend a really hard time, and since my boyfriend had to put up with the guy for a week, he did it just to get Bob off his back.
On a positive note, my crying over the phone and being mad at my boyfriend for smoking was loud enough that Bob overheard it. My boyfriend had to explain that it was what happened when he smoked, and Bob left him alone the rest of the week. Consequently, Bob thinks I'm a (female dog), for nagging my boyfriend so, but I'm happy because I got my point across.
My boyfriend was mad at me and defensive because even though he did the wrong thing, he didn't want me to treat him like a child. He was more upset because he felt like I didn't respect his decisions. He assured me he's not the type of guy to start smoking and said he'd never do it again. He also said he wouldn't forget the discussion this time, and that he didn't know it was that big a deal to me.
He hadn't told me any of this during the week because Bob was always within earshot of the phone.
So things worked out... ^_^
Thank you everyone for supporting me during this. My boyfriend really didn't think smoking pot was that bad, but I used some of your comments (especially Mono's about not the smoking, but the producing and smuggling effects of pot on people and society) to help me make my boyfriend see that pot is detrimental to more than just those who smoke it. I don't think he's about to try to get his friends to stop, but I'm comfortable enough to be sure that he won't try to smoke again in the future.
Thanks, everyone.
