Nintendo loses out again!

Hey, that was a well-executed game! And the bongos can be used for more than one game.

Sorry. I think not. A gimmick is still simply that: a gimmick. It was a quick dollar taken from the popular arcade rythm games in Japan. It is much easier/cheaper to replicate a popular formula with a minor changes than to actually *gasp* make a real Donkey Kong game.
Nintendo said it best (in response to the topic of DVD players in consoles) that gamers buy system for gaming. Thanks. Now quit making gimmicks, and start making real gaming experiences. And yes, the bongos can be used for two (2) games. Wow! Huge support! The other game being another cheap Donkey Kong game that wouldn't last 3 hours of playing, and had bosses that were all the same [exactly], except faster or stronger.

Neo, this is completely out of their hands. Nintendo isn't to blame.

No? It's Nintendo's job, as the maker of a console, to...
A) Make a system that third parties will want to develop for
B) Recruit third-party support
c) Support third-party developers (like Nintendo refuses to do with the makers of online games for the GC)
So, you see, the fault is completely Nintendo's. A third party won't develop games for a system out of charity, the same as I won't stay Nintendo's fan because I feel sorry for Satoru Iwata or Shiggy for screwing me over.

[size=small][Edit by Siren on [TIME]1116972524[/TIME]][/size]

I agree totally. If I knew that the GC support functions such as online weren't gonna happen, or third parties were gonna leave, I would have spent my money somewhere else. Now all I have is a console collecting dust, and no plans to buy any games for it because everything that catches my eyes these days ends up on other systems.
All this stuff about touching teh game, and feeling it, using drums, microphones, sticks, [joke] I'll tell you who their biggest third party supporter is, Fisher Price. Seeing as how they give to a young audience anyway.[/joke]
[size=small][Edit by Neo48 on [TIME]1116974183[/TIME]][/size]

You're totally right Benoit! It's not one game... it's a total of two! Three if Nintendo actually has the balls to release Odama in North America.
Odama also uses the bongos? That would make four then.

We were mainly talking about Rare and the next-generation consoles.
And we can't blame Nintendo that the PS2, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are so overhyped that everyone buys a PS2 and games for it. Consequence: everybody develops for the PS2.
[size=small][Edit by Benoit on [TIME]1117026567[/TIME]][/size]

Yeah, when all you've got to do is PORT or make more games in a series..
Why move to another platform when you can just use the same one, and make a sequel with improved graphics?
Let's not take a chance on another platform, Let's instead take a chance with CRAPPY GAMES on the system we're used to.
That's a messed up reasoning designers use o.o
LIke Naka said in his interview..
Those of you who complain that the next generation consoles won't be able to do the stunning, realistic graphics you want, Just remember:
The More complicated a game, the longer it takes to make. Soon you will be waiting 5-10 years for brand new, state of the art graphical games.
It'll be a FATHER pass on to son thing.

[size=small][Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1117037670[/TIME]][/size]

Thays why in some cases i prefer using 2d graphics and focusing more on gamplay and stuff like that, grapihcs are great but i am not willing to sacrificae gameplay (or time) for the sake of graphics.

What does the number of dimensions in videogame graphics have to do with gameplay? The ratio of good to crappy games now is about the same as it was back before we had polygons running on consoles.

2D graphics are easier to draw and animate than 3D. Then, more focus can be given to gameplay.

Odama also uses the bongos? That would make four then.

I suppose it doesn't count... Odama uses the bongos as a bonus feature... a second player beats on it to raise troop moral. And which are these four games, Benoit? Remember, no rehashes or pointless minigames.

And we can't blame Nintendo that the PS2, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy are so overhyped that everyone buys a PS2 and games for it. Consequence: everybody develops for the PS2.

Heheheh. Nintendo fights fire with fire. Take a look at the Metroid and Zelda (possibly one of the most hyped series in recent memory) games. But it wasn't enough, because they didn't sign on other developers, and Nintendo's releases were few and far between.
Why did PS2 have so many fans? It's not from superior hardware, and it's not because of reputation. It's because it has alot of games going for it on all genres, a result of recruiting third-party developers.

Heheheh. Nintendo fights fire with fire. It can't be compared to series like Final Fantasy.
Legend of Zelda has a big following since the early days. But still not enough to make it as worthwhile as Final Fantasy, because many didn't own a NES or SNES before they owned a PSX. It's not as mainstream.

Why did PS2 have so many fans? It's not from superior hardware, and it's not because of reputation. It's because it has alot of games going for it on all genres, a result of recruiting third-party developers.

Reputation does have a lot to do with it. It's so strong that gaming is now directly associated with PlayStation in most people's minds. Ask any adult about video games, and they'll know about the Game Boy and the PlayStation, but not anything else.
The PlayStation had almost a monopoly, and was a big success. This success was transferred to the PS2. A million (!) PS2s were sold in Japan before there was even a decent game out on it. About the same phenomenon happened in the West. The developers follow all the hype, and THEN you have the large variety, the large amount of crappy games, and now-and-then gem.

I suppose it doesn't count... And let's not forget the PS 2 recalls when it was first made because the developers were dumbasses..
I don't recall any gamecubes being mass recalled for a problem that could have been fixed in development...

Reputation does have a lot to do with it. It's so strong that gaming is now directly associated with PlayStation in most people's minds.

...which we can attribute to the success of the PS2. While very successful, at the launch of the Playstation 2, Sony had no where near the reputation in the video game business that Nintendo did. It was very much still the little guy, in comparison to Nintendo's successful history.

While Metroid has a big following now, it didn't before Metroid Prime.

I disagree completely. It had quite the cult following. It was hyped before the release of Metroid Prime a great deal, as well.

Legend of Zelda has a big following since the early days. But still not enough to make it as worthwhile as Final Fantasy, because many didn't own a NES or SNES before they owned a PSX. It's not as mainstream.

Yes, it is. Many people followed and played the legend that was A Link to the Past, and then both hugely popular N64 games.
The point I'm trying to make here is that collectively, Nintendo has generated as much hype as Sony has, or it is at the very least within the ballpark.
I feel you're diluting the issue; Nintendo's lack of third-party developing, as well as their lack of focus ("connectivity" in favor of online) and their obsession with innovation (which is terribly misguided) is the reason for their downfall, not the hype that Sony has generated.
I don't know if what I'm assuming is correct, but you seem to dislike the idea that Nintendo has let down its fans, that it has made some decisions that are downright ridiculous, and that ultimately Nintendo's failure has one set of shoulders to lay the blame on: itself.
If you can find some other plausible reason, please correct me.
