PlayStation was already associated with gaming back then. This made people buy the PS2.<br> <blockquote>in comparison to Nintendo's successful history.</blockquote><br>Nintendo's successful history? Most casual gamers don't even know of that. Remember that gaming didn't become really mainstream until the PlayStation, when Sony wanted everyone and their dog to know their console, which made marketing very important from then on in the gaming industry.<br> <blockquote>I disagree completely. It was hyped before the release of Metroid Prime a great deal, as well.</blockquote><br>I never heared of Metroid before Metroid Prime, but I did hear of Legend of Zelda and Mario. However, Nintendo has an image of being kiddy, which worked against that hype for a lot of people. Sony has always been 'cool' to the masses.
