Nintendo loses out again!

Postby ghost_stalker » Sat May 28, 2005 3:55 am

Well it seems that nintendo is going to fo the wasy of the sega, it is making many of the same mistakes and refuses to change to fix them, and ignoring its customers is stupid. I could understang a few ranting customers but when most of its loyal fanbase is practically screaming 'you fucking idiots you have problems that need to be addressed and fixed' while nintendo sit idly by and chooses to ignore its customers, and to ultimately fail.

...which we can attribute to the success of the PS2. While very successful, at the launch of the Playstation 2, Sony had no where near the reputation in the video game business that Nintendo did. It was very much still the little guy

That's not true. As I said, PlayStation was basically a monopoly, and did already have a monstrous success. PlayStation was already associated with gaming back then. This made people buy the PS2.

in comparison to Nintendo's successful history.

Nintendo's successful history? Most casual gamers don't even know of that. Remember that gaming didn't become really mainstream until the PlayStation, when Sony wanted everyone and their dog to know their console, which made marketing very important from then on in the gaming industry.

I disagree completely. It had quite the cult following. It was hyped before the release of Metroid Prime a great deal, as well.

I never heared of Metroid before Metroid Prime, but I did hear of Legend of Zelda and Mario. The cult consisted of gamers that enjoyed the SNES era, which many casual gamers of today did not experience.

Yes, it is. Many people followed and played the legend that was A Link to the Past, and then both hugely popular N64 games.

Many casual gamers did not.

The point I'm trying to make here is that collectively, Nintendo has generated as much hype as Sony has, or it is at the very least within the ballpark.

With Ocarina of Time, it came close. However, Nintendo has an image of being kiddy, which worked against that hype for a lot of people. Sony has always been 'cool' to the masses.

I have to go with the group in support of the 2d graphics with a better story line. Hell most people I talk to say that ff6 was better because they spent too much time working on the graphics for ff7. This can bee seen as well in ff8 where most people gave up one the game before the end of the second disc.
Also you all have to remember that Nintendo is just now starting to please their older gamers that where teething on the NES. They should have tried to follow this with the other companies when they started making more adult oriented games. Hell I bought my GC for just four games they year after it was shown at E3 because of the graphics alone and they messed one of them up by switching to a shell shading. But As I pointed out to some one last week I would have bought the game "If " it was for the SNES.
But I did not give up on them and still play some of their more decent/none kiddy games like RE PSO STRS and Metroid and yes I did just put payment down for the next Zelda after reading last months EGM and what they showed at E3. Also did any one see Filters E3 show that put the revolution in second place over the 360 and just under the PS3?

They forgot to burn the boot program on those GD-ROMs.

they messed one of them up by switching to a shell shading

Cell-shading isn't bad. It's too bad that immature people can't appreciate them.

Its not that I am immature Benoit. I just never liked the style and would rather they launch me at the sun then have to see it again.
And by issues for the PS2 do you mean the blue disk or the drop tray problems?

Benoit, if somebody doesn't like cell-shading, it's not because they're immature, just like if someone likes the realistic graphics of GTA:SA it doesn't mean that they're mature.

Okay, maybe not you, but there are a lot of people out there whose only reason for not liking the graphics is "OMG kiddy!!!!!111 it sux!".

Well it’s not “Kiddy” that’s my reason. I played Monster rancher 3, Wild Arms 3, Robotech Battle cry and of those I only kept Wild Arms for the replay value. As for LZWW, Hell they made Link into “Dennis the Menace” both in look and game play. This after they showed that sweet clip ate E3 for the GCs launch.

What? o_O What are you talking about? Link controls the same as Ocarina of Time's Link, with some extra moves.
I've got something to add to the "gimmicks" debate. At least Nintendo doesn't force you to get them. When you buy a console these days, the gimmicks are included. However, Nintendo's Revolution will purely be a gaming console. If you so choose, you can add the DVD player functionality, but you don't have to. Same deal with the Nintendo DS and its movie and MP3 capabilities.
