Its graphical processing ability doesn't even compare to Dreamcast. Mind you, both the Dreamcast and GameCube have compression in their VRAM. With that, the Dreamcast reaches 28 MB of VRAM. GameCube reaches 32 MB. The PS2 has no compression. As you say, graphics will indeed take longer to show up, but it will be at the cost of processing power, draining the PS2 and making it inferior to the Dreamcast.
[Edit by Benoit on [TIME]1083502617[/TIME]]

Thats incorrect the Dreamcast vram is totaled at 8mb while the PS2' reaches 4mb. And while it takes longer for the PS2 to load ten times the amount of graphics that the dremcast of which can only produce about a third of. And even if the PS2 doesn't have anti aliasing (which really doesn't bother me) it's still able to produce some of the best looking games I have ever seen. Silent hill 2&3, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts and Gran Turismo 3 just to name a few blow the Dreamcast out of the water.

Thats incorrect the Dreamcast vram is totaled at 8mb while the PS2' reaches 4mb.

Ah, yes, Dreamcast indeed has 8 MB VRAM. BUT it still had compression, which pushed the limit to 26/28 MB of VRAM.

And while it takes longer for the PS2 to load ten times the amount of graphics that the dremcast of which can only produce about a third of.

That's not true. Dreamcast has way more VRAM in reality. PSO could never run on it, and neither would Lodoss War.

And even if the PS2 doesn't have anti aliasing (which really doesn't bother me)

Thanks for providing that point, which is also a big downside for the PS2 for many people. Games look less good because of this as well.

it's still able to produce some of the best looking games I have ever seen. I bet you would have said that Shenmue had made it reach the limits if Shenmue II didn't come out. Remember, the Dreamcast was only in the half of its lifespan.
May I also remind you that the latest games cause the PS2 to work overtime and heat it up quite much? I'm not talking bollocks, the latest games do that.
The Dreamcast doesn't.

The dreamcast is not as powerful as the PS2 and never will. I am not biased towards the dreamcast. It does make beautiful looking games but nowhere near that of whats on the PS2. Like the games that I have mentioned can never run on the dreamcast because it is inadequate. The dreamcast can only produce 3 million polygons a second compared to the PS2 20+ million. But because of the PS2 vram you have longer loading times for all those polygons to get on screen. The dreamcast if was was more powerful could prodcue that many polygons onscreen but it can't mainly because of its 200mhz processor and out of date 64bit dual 3D chip. Where as the PS2 although more difficult to program for can produce some really beautiful games with next to no slowdown. While all the dreamcast has is the Shenmue 2 which has tremendoues slowdown when more than 6 people are on screen.

[Edit by HuBBsDoctor on [TIME]1083529748[/TIME]]

Benoit you have been mislead just like everyone else. The dreamcast is not as powerful as the PS2 and never will.

Oh quit the propaganda. PS2 is badly designed and suffers from it. Else you would have seen PSO on it by now, as well as other Sonic Team games. And Space Channel 5 wouldn't have sucked on it.

It does make beautiful looking games but nowhere near that of whats on the PS2.

Yeah, right. I have seen those games you speak about. Nothing special.

And how would you know? SP5 sucked. You've never played it on a ps2.

That's what I said. But it was good on Dreamcast. And I trust A2K's judgement.

Plus sonic team is starting to release games on the PS2. And Sonic heroes wasn't ported over by a 3rd party company. Oh wait SEGA IS A 3rd PARTY COMPANY!

You've both made Valid points. The Dreamcast had more VRam and the
PS 2 can run some beautiful games.
The bickering needs to stop, I've seen it grow and grow to increase postage
count and since I cannot do it, No one else should!
Why can't we just see that both points are valid and leave it at that?
Wizards 6th rule states "The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is Reason. Reason states what exists, is. And from that all morals and opinions are derived."
Apply this to see that the PS 2 is loved, Will always be loved, and nothing will
stop that. Nothing will stop beautiful games on it, and nothing will ever stop
the DC from living in Japan.
THat is reason, and as such it dictates what is to be believed and not.
Regardless, the argument about the better system is pointless becase it cannot
ever be won!
You violate Wizard's Third Rule "Passion overrules Reason" when you bicker on
something like this.
Now let's stop the fighting and be happy that beautiful games can be made.
Or would you rather ugly and crappy games be made?

HuBBs even if Khyron is on drugs he is right you both need to stop the bickering. If you cant you are probably gonna scare off some people who just wont want to participate in a place with that sort of mindless ranting. Both systems have their flaws but neither are better than the other. They both had crappy games and they both had wonderful games.
Now just drop it ok cuz all it takes to kill a game or a system is to call it crap.

Now just drop it ok cuz all it takes to kill a game or a system is to call it crap.

Oh which I called neither system nor game for each respective system. And sadly both you and Khyron are wrong about one thing. We aren't bickering. Its what you call a dabate. You know when too sides with lots of info and stuff hold a talk about something thta they both disagree with. Mind you while that can be also called argueing, debating is the lesser of the two since argueing also involves yelling. An action of whcih we have not been doing.

As long as the Shining Tear's storyline is set in a seperate universe and doesn't screw with Camelot's great Vandal/Innovator plot, then I'm looking forward to its release in the West.

I know you are debating however it becomes bickering at least in my mind when it becomes pointless and iritating.
And that last message i put was not just to you, the only reason your name was on it was because of your drug comment. That part about the killing a game or system by calling it crap was more directed at Benoit.
