I hate IE6. Coding js to comform IE6 also is PITA. Even with jquery.

Just drop support for it. More and more sites are doing so, including Google's sites, and the market share is slowly dropping to 10%. Maybe if many sites stop working in it, the rest will finally upgrade to something better.

While I want a new Shenmue, with the situation looking the way it does, I've completely given up on it by now.

I've considered getting into the Yakuza series, but I didn't like the first one enough after renting it, I don't think I'll even go ahead with going into it...

On topic now, I saw Modern Warfare 2 today at my local store... OH... SHIT... It costs close to 85 dollars in my currency... What kind of crack are those imbeciles smoking!?

When I get it, I'll get it from somewhere else...

Damn Street Fighter 4 costs a testicle and a half. Assasin's Creed 1 costs the same, and it's been I dunno how long since it came out! WHAT THE FRAK!?

It's more like a collection of situations, actually.

Yes, there is the recession, which makes companies to want to play it safe, there's the dwindling Japanese games' industry, churning more of the same, even if those one millionth sequels DO play well, meaning no new IPs or experimentation with new mechanics. Also, the total failure of the two first Shenmue games in becoming a commercial success, only obtaining a cult following.

Shenmue was, in a fashion, dismembered and its core concepts reused by other franchises. Yakuza and Grand Theft Auto in utilizing a version of an open world and God of War (1, I dunno about the others), Heavy Rain and a few others with their QTEs, to name a few.

While Shenmue was expensive and non redituable in its time, newer games have done the same, which makes me think that a new Shenmue would be economically feasible, but I don't think Sega's board of directives would ever give it a green light.

Shenmue is dead, relegating Ryo to an extra character in a dumb racing game.

Shenmue was revolutionary, but Suzuki couldn't keep up with the times. People didn't buy it because it was boring and dull. And it was.

I wouldn't think of it as boring and dull. To my tastes, it had a very interesting story, wonderful characters, an unrivaled ambientation and many other things all packed inside it. The fatal flaw in that game was the SLOW AS A TURTLE WITH BROKEN LEGS pacing. I quickly remember Xiuying and Fangmei from Shenmue 2, Mrs Ine and Fukuhara from Shenmue 1, etc.

The problem, as I said, was the pacing. It comes to show me that Suzuki spent too much time and effort on developing the ambience of the games, instead of making the game flow like games of its generation, which directly influenced the games of this current generation.

I haven't heard anything but good comments about GTA4, for example. I haven't played it (no cash, haha), but friends who have it and who I lent the two Shenmue games back in the day, tell me that GTA4 reminds them of Shenmue somewhat, and that I should make it the first GTA I touch, since I have avoided the series because of having a problem with playing as a criminal.

There are so many good games out... It's like the new age of gaming... Something fun, new, and exciting is being released several times a month... Speaking of newer gems, I need to get the Dragon Age expansion, as I haven't beaten that yet, and it's starting to become old.

Using jquery you can forget all the browser spacific code, but somehow IE6 is still acting differently.
Thank god, its market share has dropped.
