For the case of argument, I think that in this case, good care is maintaining a relatively constant temperature, avoiding extreme G forces (dropping/throwing) and excessive humidity, performing appropriate maintenance (the Sega Saturn uses a standard replaceable CMOS battery to power its internal memory when turned off), and obeying the "Do not open" warnings when applicable. I was very curious as a child, hence the death of my first Genesis in an attempt to find out what was inside. I didn't find any candy...

I agree with Calsojos. Those are the basics when taking care of any console, especially the ones of this generation that seem to be made of paper.

Also, Tanith... You let him do THAT!? BAAAAAAD move... A PS2 and Dreamcast combo are still great, even in the age of TEH EICH DEE GRAPHUCS.

As for what's on my mind... I'm still writing the third part of my fanfic. It's coming along okay, but I am noticing something I didn't expect, that kind of worries me.

My original aim was just to make it a comedy poking fun at PSO and reflect how the userbase I encountered in Blue Burst acted, ranging from nice people to outright assholes. However, in the process of writing it, I began slowly going into a more somber tone, as far as the exploration of the surface of Ragol has gone... I remember that's how I felt when I started playing all those years ago, and how I still feel whenever I play it. I think it's going to only get harder from here on out, that the characters have begun their real work. Something I never intended.

That said, I will try to keep the comedy and jokes around. Humor has to have a good degree of presence to avoid making this a grueling experience for myself.

I know, I know. If it were up to me, I'd still own both. I had the keyboard for the Dreamcast! I actually lost my own Dreamcast in my divorce (no, it wasn't actually IN the divorce papers; it was just settled between myself and my ex that he could keep it. He also got my Monty Python DVD collection and James Bond DVD collection, two things I heavily regret giving up). So, the Dreamcast that was traded in by current hubby wasn't actually mine, per se. Neither was the PS2. I should have been more adamant about keeping them. It's not like we got tons of money for trading either of them.

The PS3 is actually quite decent when speaking of ventilation and stuff. I have opened mine, since my warranty expired some time ago to clean it. While it does gather a bit of dust, very little of it remains on the motherboard, while the fan's blades gather most of it.

The reason for the death of Peaguy's PS3 could be one or more from among quite a few, not just dust and overheating. It could be a problem with the BIOS, flash memories that are known to fail, even if rarely on this generation of systems, defective soldering on the components placed on the motherboard, among a myriad other possibilities.

Ah...

Well, the Saturn is actually quite dust resistant. What could die from it was the laser, but the internal circuitry would usually survive. The Dreamcast, however, was the wimpiest of the consoles of its generation in terms of resistance to both normal use and abuse. The motherboards were covered with a metallic shielding that was also supposed to act as a heatsink, but in terms of effectivity, it wasn't all that good. Then came the XBox with a terrible DVD drive, next the Playstation 2 and then the Game Cube that was pretty much melee combat worthy in terms of shock resistance.

Not that I know this from personal experience, *cough* *blames someone else in the family* but our Wii does not like extended, marathon use, whereas our PS3 could probably run for eons before finally throwing in the towel and freezing up.

Our original PS3, however, did not appreciate having pennies shoved into it. That I can understand. Our new PS3 = <3. What a difference two years make!

Random: Fanfiction.net has ads for IMVU (some sort of sim dating site, I think?), and the sims in the ads scare the shit out of me. Do people really like roleplaying or whatever it is they do over there with those sims? Sweet Santa on a cracker, they're creepy as hell!

As I understand it, IMVU is an MMORPG in a similar flavor as Second Life, and as a result, pretty much anything that people can't easily do in real life they imitate there. I don't know exactly how it's laid out, but they seem quick to latch onto whatever peculiar behavior happens to be appearing at the moment- the vampire appeal and biting-your-girlfriend's-neck thing that popped up from the Twilight series is the newest example they implemented that I'm aware of.

It's essentially a honeypot for fetishes and fake romance, if I understood their ads correctly.
