Phantasy Star Generation 1 Walkthrough - Part 9: Baya Malay
Troa Checkpoint
Here you just gotta go straight. You'll bump into a door. Open the menu and use Lutz's spell Open (ムオーデ). It will open the door. From here you just gotta go straight to the black dot on the map. The other doors lead to prisoners with whom you can speak (but if you don't understand Japanese, there's no point in doing that). Besides, for each one of those doors you'd have to use the spell again and you will waste Lutz's MP, and we'll need it, so just go straight to the black dot and a robotcop will appear. Answer "yes" (はい) to fight him (it's necessary). If you answer "no" (いいえ) you'll be arrested. In case you think the idea of getting arrested is interesting, look at the second map. You'll land in the middle part of the map and there's an old man behind the door saying he's looking for a secret way out (which we can find in 5 seconds with the map). So you just gotta go to the end and you'll be out of the checkpoint and you'll have to go all the way to the robotcop again. :D
The battle against the robotcop is easy. You can win by just attacking. Then keep walking and you'll be on the other side of the wall. Head northeast. Be careful because the monsters around here are very strong, so I recommend you use Alis' Escape (ラクスタ). You'll find a very simple small cave. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave (as Passageway to Baya Malay 2).
Passageway to Baya Malay
You'll be in the lower right part of the map, you just gotta go to the other side, don't bother taking the Difluid. There are strong monsters around here too, so I recommend you keep using Alis' Escape (ラクスタ) to run away.
On the other side you'll face a lava terrain. Press R1 to use the Land Rover to cross it without having any problems. You'll reach the Baya Malay Tower. If you want (you probably will for this one), please consult the map available here at PS Cave.
Baya Malay Tower
I may have finished this game twice and the original version ten times, but I always get scared seeing the Baya Malay maps! You can't just go upstairs. You gotta go downstairs and upstairs a lot of ladders in the right order to reach the end! There are three important things to be done here. The first one is to take the Crystal that we mentioned above; the second one is to get the Miracle Key, which is for opening doors sealed by magic without having to waste Lutz's MP and the third one is to reach the tower top. However, unlike I used to do on the original version (where I accomplished each one of these things, then went back, healed everyone and then went back to do the next thing), I recommend you to do everything at once! You know why? I reached the tower top for the first time, already having the Crystal and the Key, and the game didn't proceed (Orakio Rob followed some e-mails from me of intense frustration). I already had everything I needed and had already talked to Damor (the guy who gives the crystal) a lot of times, but nevertheless, the game didn't proceed automatically when I reached the tower top. It only worked when I went to talk to Damor again WITHOUT LEAVING THE TOWER. I went all the way back and then took the way to the top. Then it worked. I don't know if that's some bug or anything, but it may happen and you won't want that, so do everything at once.
The Miracle Key here in the remake is in the middle of the way to the tower top, so it won't be that laborious. Well, let's go. These were the only maps I bothered to modify, because it's too confusing and you get lost easily even if you have the maps. I won't mark the treasures, so please consult the maps here at PS Cave if you want to know what they contain. I recommend you keep using Alis' Escape (ラクスタ) to run away from every battle all the time and to heal yourself in case you take a lot of damage until you reach the tower top, otherwise you might not even get there alive. I'm going to take the liberty to say what you have to do and even the treasure chests you may open (the ones I don't think are worth it I will not even mention). You start at the "X" on the fourth map (the first three are underground floors). Open the menu and use Lutz's Open (ムオーデ). Take stairs 1, 2, and 3. Between stairs 3 and 4 there's an Atlas, but it's not worth taking. Use the last option to ignore the chest and go straight to ladder number 4. At the end you'll open another door with Lutz's spell and find Damor. He'll ask a lot of questions. Answer "Yes" (はい) to the first three and "no" (いいえ) to the two following questions. You will receive the crystal. Now, just to make sure, talk to him a lot of times. He might "disappear", but walk backwards and forward again then he will reappear. Keep talking to him until his lines begin to repeat.
Now, WITHOUT LEAVING the tower, go back all the way to ladder number 1 (the path is straight). Actually, the path I will indicate won't allow you to take some good treasures that might seen very useful, but trust me when I say you can handle things without them, because I've never taken them. As you noticed, this tower is extremely complicated and writing this walkthrough is ruining all my neurons, so I won't search for alternative ways to go after them. If you want, consult the maps and try by yourself. Now, from ladder number 1, follow to stairs 5 and 6. Between stairs 6 and 7 you can take 1000 meseta (be careful with the trap) at point number 1 and a Crystal Claw (クリスタルクロー) for Myau at point 3 (although I don't think it's worth equipping, but you can sell it). Now take stairs 7, 8 and 9. Between stairs 9 and 10, you'll find the key which opens the doors sealed by magic at point number 2, so be sure to take it! Then take stairs 10 (they forgot to put a ladder on the map of the floor to which it leads), 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Ladder 18 leads to a long corridor where you'll find the tower top at the end, but be careful because there is a cruel trap on the way! Before stepping there, use Myau's Trap (ラプット) to get through.
Reaching the end of the tower, an automatic sequence will happen. Alis will use the Aero-Prism that we got from that dragon on Dezoris, which will reveal the place where Lassic's Air Castle is. Myau will eat that Laerma Nut and transform himself into a big winged animal and will ask everyone to ride on his back (and also complain that Odin is heavy :D) and will fly to the castle, taking everyone on his back. As soon as you appear at the Air Castle, Myau will be return to his original size. Don't step on that purple square on the floor because it will take you back to the tower top! Just save the game immediately at the save point right by your side! Now use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) and go back to Camineet (カミニート居住区). Go to the hospital and heal everyone, then save the game again and if you haven't bought those crystals I told you to buy, buy them now. Use Teleport again to go back to the Air Castle (空中庭園). Now you can go back to the Castle that way whenever you want. Head north and a very pleasant dragon will appear on your way, and it's not one of the legendary ones! :D
The dragon is very strong and can kill you in one turn. I confess I was at level 50 and I had a lot of difficulty to defeat him and I've died a lot of times. To defeat him you should use EXACTLY the same strategy we used against that dragon in the Aero-Prism Cave on Dezoris. So you just consult it above. The only thing that I would recommend is that instead of Alis, Myau will be the one who uses Thunderstorm first (since he usually attacks first), because sometimes the dragon attacks before everyone else and he has an attack that sometimes kills two at once. The Thunderstorm usually lasts two or three turns, but against that dragon, don't wait for the effect to fade to use it again, use it about two turns after the last one because his attack is very strong! When the last Thunderstorm is used, make Myau cast Shield and Magic Shield so you can stay alive for at least one or two turns more and use Myau's or Lutz's Ra-Heal (ラヒール) after the dragon attacks you in order to stay alive a little longer. And of course, pray a little bit. :D
After the dragon killed me about 5 times I managed to defeat him that way. If you can't win, try leveling up a little, but I did, at least.
After defeating the dragon, since you're alive, don't walk north! Use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) and go back to Camineet (カミニート居住区), go to the hospital, heal everyone and save the game. Here's the deal: Lassic's Air Castle is not that hard, but there are eight guards guarding (long live the pleonasm) the entrance. And you can't kill them, go back to Camineet and heal yourself, because they'll be back. Remember when I told you to level up to level 50, that it would be the penultimate time I'd ask you to level up? The last time will be now. :D
We're going fight the last of the four legendary dragons soon, and personally, I think he's the hardest boss of the game. If you can defeat him, you can defeat anyone else. So before entering the castle, keep fighting those robotcop guardians that watch the castle. They're not too hard and give about 30 thousand experience points! The strategy is simple. They are always a group of three red robots and a white robot. Alis, Myau and Odin must attack and Lutz must use Gi-Thunder (ギタンドレ). At the first Gi-Thunder, the white one will be killed, so you just have to keep attacking the others and use Lutz's Gi-Thunder. On the first turn, use Myau's Shield (ワーラ) on Myau. There's no point in using the Magic Shield because the robots just shoot and Magic Shield (as the name implies) protects from magic spells. Always heal everyone after every battle (preferably using Myau, as you will need Lutz's MP for the Gi-Thunder). When your MP runs out, go back to Camineet, heal everyone at the hospital and teleport back to the castle. Do it when you defeat the guardians as well, because you'll have to teleport and come back in order for them to reappear. Level up to level 60 and don't worry because it will really be the last time. I know leveling up is very boring, but at level 60 you can finish the game.
After reaching level 60, use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) and go back to Camineet (カミニート居住区), go to the hospital and then go to the Camineet shop to buy Crystals again. Don't forget to equip the crystals! You should be so rich by now through fighting against those guardians that money will be the least of your problems. Now save the game and use Alis' Teleport to go back to the Air Castle (空中庭園), fight those lame guardians again and enter the castle. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.
